Primordial Black/Dark Matter Manifesto/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Primordial  Black  are  a  duo  from  Tunisia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  album  "Dark  Matter  Manifesto".

  A  very  dark  and  ritualistic  ambient  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  chants  in  the  background before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  blackened  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  death  and  groove  metal  elements  and  blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  song  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them..

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  some  synths  also  being  utilized  at  times.  One  song  also  introduced  industrial  style beats  into  the  music  as  well  as  some  of  the  fast  riffing  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adds  in  some  session  work  from  ,members  of  Rotting  Christ  and  K.F.R.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  metaphysical  collapse,  inner  apocalypse  and  the  silence  of  god.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Primordial  Black  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dark  Matter  Manifesto"  and  "Din  Of  thy  Celestial  Birds".  8  out  of  10.

Alukta/Merok/Transcendence/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Alukta  are  a  duo  from  France  that  plays  a  ritualistic  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Merok"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Transcendence.

  A  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  doom  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album along  with  some  ethnic  style  instruments  and  chants  a  few  seconds  later.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  recording  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments.

  Clear  male  and  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  harsh  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  Alukta  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  and  doom  metal  and  mixes  it  with  tribal  music  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  funeral  rites  of  the  Tonga  people,  cults  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Alukta  are  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Matampu"  and  "Exuvia".  8  out  of  10.

Maheshvara/Om Tat Sat/Black Vulture Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Maheshvara  are  a  solo  project  from  Ireland  that  plays  an  atmospheric form  of  dark  metal  with  elements  of  ritual,  ambient  and  darkwave  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Om  Tat  Sat"  which  was  released  by  Black  Vulture  Records.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  and  ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  The  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  elements  of  doom  metal  and  the  grim  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  black  metal  style.

  Programmed  beats  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Touches  of  darkwave  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  which  also  give  the  album  more  of  an  ethnic  touch,  spoken  word  parts  and  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  whole  album  also  sticking  to  a  slower  direction.

  Maheshvara  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  atmospheric  black,  dark,  doom  meta,  ritual,  ambient  and  darkwave  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  'Bhagavad-Gita-As  It  Is'  by  A.C  BhaktivedantaSwami  Prabhupada  and  other  Sanskrit  texts.

  In  my  opinion  Maheshvara  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  dark  metal  solo  project  with  elements  of  ritual,  ambient  and  darkwave  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eternal  Soul"  "Seers  Of  The  Truth"  and  "Interim  State".  8  out  of  10.

Moonspell/Under The Moonspell (The Early Years Collection)/Alma Mater Records/2024 Compilation Album Review

 

  Moonspell  are  a  band  from  Portugal  that  has  had  plenty  of  music  reviewed  in  this  zine  over  this  years  and  on  this  release  they  compiled  their  1994  ep  "Under  The  Moonspell"  and  demo's  "Under  Satanae"  and  Anno  Satanae"  which  showed  more  of  darker ,  occult  and  black  metal  style  than  previous  releases  as  well  as  having  some  gothic  metal  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  compilation  "Under  The  Moonspell  (The  Earlier  Years)"  which  will b e  released  on  April  20th  by  Alma  Mater  Records.

  Synths  and  clear  folk  music  style  clear singing  mixed  in  with  some  ethnic  chants  start  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  compilation  while  the  keyboards  also  enhance  the  occult  nature  of  the  songs.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  acoustic  guitars  and  folk  instruments  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks.

  Some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Some  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  earlier  recordings  also  avoid  the  use  of  gothic  elements  which  are  more  present  on  newer  releases.

  Some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  touches  of  middle  eastern  style  folk  music  which  also  gives  the  compilation  more  of  an  exotic  touch.  Percussion's  are  also  utilized  more  on  the  later  demo  and  ep  enhancing  the  shamanistic  and  tribal  nature  of  the  music  as  well  as  some  of  the  keyboards  getting  more  symphonic  and  gothic  metal  style  vocals  also  being  added  as  the  compilations,

  Female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  as  well a s  some  of  the  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  an  aggressive  shouting  style  and  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Left  hand  Path,  Thelema  and  Esoteric  themes.     

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Moonspell  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ancient  Winter  Goddess"  "The  Fever"  "Serpent  Angel"  and  "Tenebrarum  Pratorium".  8/7  out  of  10.

Dauðaro/Eyðimörkin/The Way of The Hermit/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Dauðaro  are  a  solo  project  form  Iceland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  a  ritualistic  and  blackened  form  of  funeral  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Eyðimörkin"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  The  Way  Of  The  Hermit.

  Clean  playing  and  dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  the  only  track  that  is  present  on  this  recording  is  over  31  minutes  in  length.  Elements  of  funeral  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  and  heavier  sections  of  the  track  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  album.  The  track  also  has  its  ritualistic  moments  along  with  the  track  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing,  clear  chants can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  whole  recording  sticks  to  a  slower  direction  as  well  as  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  being  added  into  the  music  towards  the  end.

  On  this  recording  Dauðaro  brings  in  more  of  a  ritualistic,  atmospheric  and  blackened  style  of  funeral  doom/death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  shamanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dauðaro  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  ritualistic  and  blackened  funeral  doom/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  8  out  of  10.

Chaos Perversion Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

1  To begin with, Chaos Perversion was born in 2016 as a solo project, after several failed attempts with other bands/musicians he is involved with.

The intention from the beginning was to create crushing fucking black/death metal by combining the dense part of doom metal.

Shortly after, Daniel Hermosilla (Nox Fragor Art) joined the band and that's how it took shape.

2.So far you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that yo went for on the recording?

2 Of course, At the moment and Physically there is only one EP, The style was given by Sola and Naturally, I basically make Music for myself, And what I look for in It is that it be Darkly powerful as well as conceptual with the things I do and I think.

I could start by naming bands that influenced the composition, but in general I only look for the riffs and blast beast to flow, in fact if I usually find something similar in a band I change it, either in melody or rhythm.

3.Both of the band members are aslo in other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Chaos Perverrsion' that you are not able to do with your other other groups?

3 Personally I have 2 separate bands, which are svadhisthana (Death/Doom) and a new black metal band which I won't say much about, conceptually and musically they are different. The same thing happens with Daniel, he participates in Cenotafio (Black/Death) Invehertex/Ignifania (Black Metal)

4.A lot of your lyrics cover Vampirism, Dark Witchcraft and Chaos Magick themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

4 Of course, the Concept is Quite Explicit and is Based on Experiences of the Oneiric Plane (Post Visualization/Meditation Dreams together with Sigils) They are basically Recreations and Self Interpretation of those manifestations of the Subconscious that Mundanely/Daily wander through my Mind.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Chaos Perversion'?

5 The name is born from the original magic that I knew, magic that covers multiple disciplines of different esoteric practices which I continue to do, mainly self-control of thought and calm in the face of Chaos.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

6 Currently there are 2 Covers, one Daniel Design (Nox Fragor Art) which was used in the first release under my label (Ritualization Prods) and frames the black energy emanated by the human body, energy that surpassed the physical margins and record our power centers. The Second was executed by Daniel Corcuera (Nekronikon) For the Reissue of that EP, it demonstrates a vulnerability of the inert body while it sleeps/dies, it shows how horrible desires are while we are vulnerable.

7.Currnetly there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

7 Exactly, little by little musicians are being added for some future presentation.

With the new EP, which is soon to be released, we will already have a Track list to show in public, despite the fact that in composition everything will continue as it is.

8.Recently 'Sentient Ruin Laboratories' and 'Total Death' teamed up to re-issue  your 2019 ep under a new titled, can you tell us a little bit more about the decision behind the name change of the newer version?

8 Gerardo from the label and producer Total death He was the first interested in re-editing the EP, some time later Mattia from Setient Ruins Laboratories joined us and together we decided that the release be done on a similar date, both labels collaborated with a new artwork for both releases. The name change was simply to make the concept of the EP even clearer. Musically, only an intro and an outro were added.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

9 The truth is that at the moment only the labels have seen it, I have not promoted or agreed on exchanges with people from other countries. In fact, this is the first interview that I answer that is not from a Chilean zine, even so I trust that this black seed will continue to reap fruits like these and will continue to spread through every corner (I don't usually pay attention to things on social networks)

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

10 For my part, I have 2 EPs with my own bands in parallel and from different genres (Black metal and Death/Doom) that will soon be released when I make the respective releases under my label called Ritualization Prods.

For Daniel's part, he has recordings in progress for his black metal and black/death metal bands called Invehertex (Black Metal), Cenotafio (Black/Death with a couple of tracks for Future Split) and Ignifania (Black metal with a new album composed and ready to record)

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

11 In the short term (This year) I am scheduled to release the Second EP Que Grave last year and at the same time release a compilation with both EPs for the First LP Under my label, unless I have another offer from another label, which I will not past moment.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

12 There are quite a few bands that I have liked lately, such as Caverne , Anatomia , The hauthing Presence , Cultes des Ghoules (Gods) , Baxaxaxa , Malokarpatan Krypts, Outside of metal I listen to a lot of Dead Can Dance , Celtic Music and Tibetan Mantras. Above I told you what I think about "Musical Influences" and that I just let it flow naturally.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

  Chaos  Perversion  are  a  band  from  Chile  that  plays  a  ritualistic  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Petrified  Against  The  Emanation"  which  will  be  released  on  January  21st  as  a  joint  effort  between  Sentient Ruin  Laboratories  and  Total  Death.

    A  very  dark yet  ritualistic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  90's  influences.

    When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  while  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  South  American  black/death  metal  style  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  dark  yet  melodic  sound  as  well  as  having  their  chaotic  moments.

  Chaos Perversion  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  brutal  and  ritualistic  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Vampirism,  Death  and  left  Hand  Path  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Chaos  Perversion  are  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  blackened  death  metal b and  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Absorption  Ascension  Under  The  Vampiric  Connection"  and  "Entangled  By  The  Roots  Of  Death".  8  out  of  10.

  Poland's  Throneum  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  blackened  death  metal  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Oh  Death...  Oh  Death... Determinate  Preach  And  Led  Us  Astray" which  was  released  by  Godz  Of  War  Productions.

 A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  evil  sounding  melodies  also  coming  out  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Half  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  blackened  screams  as  well  as  the  music  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  elements.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  ritualistic  sounding  instrumentals  one  of  which  also  introduces  horror  orientated  keyboards  onto  the  album,  operatic  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Qabala,  Luciferian  and  Mythological  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Throneum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritualistic  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Alpha:  Soulside-Space-Stream"  and  "Zeta:  Archangel-Lucifer-God".  8  out  of  10.

Arkhaaik/*dʰg̑ʰm̥tós/Iron Bonehead Productions/2019 CD Review

  Arkhaaik  are  a  band  from  Switzerland  that  plays  a  ritualistic  and  sepulchral  mixture  of  black,  death  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "*dʰg̑ʰm̥tós"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.



  Distorted  amp  sounds  and  tribal  beats  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  which  also  introduces  grim  black  metal  screams  and  shouts  onto  the  recording.  All  3  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  slow  sections  of  the  songs  bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal.



  Bestial  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  gets  very  shamanistic  and  ritualistic  at  times  along  with  some  percussion  style  instruments  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard.



  Melodic  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  some  of  the  vocals  bring  in  more of  a  90's  death/doom  metal  vibe.  Folk  instruments  are  also  added into  some  parts  of the  recording  and  they  also  enhance  the  tribal,  ritualistic  and  occult  atmosphere  the  songs  create  when  they  are  utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are written  in  Indo  European  and  cover  primitive  worship  and  ancient  deities  that  ruled  long  before  man  dominated  and  soiled  the  earth.

  In  my  opinion  Arkhaaik  are  a  very  great  sounding  ritualistic  and  sepulchral  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "ursgwhen".  8  out  of  10.
