  Sweden's  The  Vice  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for a   mixture  of  black'n'roll,  post  punk,  dark  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  ep  "The  Red  Tape  Sessions"  which  was  released  by  Noble  Demon.

  Soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  post  punk  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  the.  Solos  and  leads  are  done  in  more  of  a  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  black  metal  screams  and  the  synths  add  in  more  of  a  dark  emetal  direction.

  Elements  of  black'n'roll  are  also  added  into  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  music  also  incorporated  a  lot  of  goth  rock  influences.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast b eats  also being  utilized  when  the  music  speeds  up,  acoustic  guitars  and  clear  singing  are  also  introduced  on  a  later  track.  

  On  this  recording  The  Vice  continues  to  expand  on t heir  mixture  of  black'n'rool,  dark  and  gothic  metal  by  incorporating  elements  of  post-punk.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Vice  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  black'n'roll,post-punk,  dark  and  gothic  metal,  you  should  check  out t his  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Lilies  of  the  Field".  8  out  of  10.

Moonspell/Opus Diabolicum - The Orchestral Live Show/Napalm Records/2025 Double Live Album Review

 

  Portugal's  Moonspell have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  with  an  orchestra  in  a live  setting  to  add  a  symphonic  touch  to t heir  mix  of  black, dark  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  live  2025  double  album  "Opus  Diabolicum  -  The  orchestral  Live  Show"  which  was  released  by  Napalm  Records.

  Live  Audience  reaction  starts  off  the  album  along  with  an  orchestra  playing  in  a  background  bringing  in  more  of  a  classical  and  symphonic  style  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  When  chants  and  spoken  words  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  touch.

  Choirs  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  harsh  vocals  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  clear  vocals  also  adding  in  elements  of  gothic  metal  when  they  are  utilized.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  whispered  vocals  onto  the  album,  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  on  a  few  songs  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  as  the  album  progresses  female  vocals  are  also  introduced.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Folklore,  Magick  and  Poetic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Moonspell  and  if  you  are a   fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  live  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "1  7  5  5"  "Extinct" "Vampiria"  and  Full  Moon  madness".  8 out  of  10.

Simple Existenz/Trummer/Undercover Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

    Simple  Existenz  are  a  solo  project  from  Germany  that  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  dark  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Trummer"  which  was  released  by  Undercover  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  doom  and  dark  metal.  Clean  playing  can  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  synths  also  giving  the  recording  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  clean  viking  metal  style  which  also  have  their  rough  moments  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  black  metal  feeling.

  

   Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  and  choirs  as  well as  a  few  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  grim  black  metal  screams.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  isolation,  decay  and  existential  emptiness.  

  In  my  opinion  Simple  Existenz  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  dark  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Das  Leis  des  Prometheus"  "Schmutz"  "Der  Tum"  and  "Silo".  8  out  of  10.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  are  more  rooted  in  black'nroll.  Touches  of  ambient  and  pop  music  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  one  track  also  being  a  Miley  Cyrus  cover,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  more  melodic  style  and  most  of  the  recording  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  female  vocals  are  also  added  on  the  closing  song.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  technical  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to them  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a small  amount  of  clean  playing.

    This  is  the  final  review  of  an  album  from  Italy's  Cultus  Sanguine  which  shows  them  bringing  their  blackened  mixture  of  doom  and  gothic  metal  to  the  live  stage  and  the  album  was  released  in  2024  by  My  Kingdom  Music  and  called  "Live  At  Midnight  Club".

  Live  audience  reaction  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  gothic  metal  style  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  an  angry  shouting  style  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  elements  of  doom metal.

  Stringed  instruments  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  doom  metal  direction  which  also  mixes  in  some  keyboards.  A  lot  of  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  angry  spoken  style  while  the  clear  vocals  add  in  touches  of  gothic  metal   and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  some  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a small  amount  of  clean  playing.  Elements  of  black  and  dark  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  whole  album  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  On  this  album  Cultus  Sanguine  focused  more  on  a  dark  metal  style  which  kept  the  elements  of  goth  and  doom  metal  from  their  previous  release  and  focused  less  on  the  black  metal  side.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  depression,  solitude  and  life  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  written  in  Italian.

  Maheshvara  are  a  solo  project  from  Ireland  that  plays  an  atmospheric form  of  dark  metal  with  elements  of  ritual,  ambient  and  darkwave  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Om  Tat  Sat"  which  was  released  by  Black  Vulture  Records.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  and  ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  The  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  elements  of  doom  metal  and  the  grim  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  black  metal  style.

  Programmed  beats  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Touches  of  darkwave  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  which  also  give  the  album  more  of  an  ethnic  touch,  spoken  word  parts  and  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  whole  album  also  sticking  to  a  slower  direction.

  Maheshvara  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  atmospheric  black,  dark,  doom  meta,  ritual,  ambient  and  darkwave  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  'Bhagavad-Gita-As  It  Is'  by  A.C  BhaktivedantaSwami  Prabhupada  and  other  Sanskrit  texts.

Moonspell/Under The Moonspell (The Early Years Collection)/Alma Mater Records/2024 Compilation Album Review

 

  Moonspell  are  a  band  from  Portugal  that  has  had  plenty  of  music  reviewed  in  this  zine  over  this  years  and  on  this  release  they  compiled  their  1994  ep  "Under  The  Moonspell"  and  demo's  "Under  Satanae"  and  Anno  Satanae"  which  showed  more  of  darker ,  occult  and  black  metal  style  than  previous  releases  as  well  as  having  some  gothic  metal  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  compilation  "Under  The  Moonspell  (The  Earlier  Years)"  which  will b e  released  on  April  20th  by  Alma  Mater  Records.

  Synths  and  clear  folk  music  style  clear singing  mixed  in  with  some  ethnic  chants  start  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  compilation  while  the  keyboards  also  enhance  the  occult  nature  of  the  songs.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  acoustic  guitars  and  folk  instruments  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks.

  Some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Some  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  earlier  recordings  also  avoid  the  use  of  gothic  elements  which  are  more  present  on  newer  releases.

  Some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  touches  of  middle  eastern  style  folk  music  which  also  gives  the  compilation  more  of  an  exotic  touch.  Percussion's  are  also  utilized  more  on  the  later  demo  and  ep  enhancing  the  shamanistic  and  tribal  nature  of  the  music  as  well  as  some  of  the  keyboards  getting  more  symphonic  and  gothic  metal  style  vocals  also  being  added  as  the  compilations,

  Female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  as  well a s  some  of  the  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  an  aggressive  shouting  style  and  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Left  hand  Path,  Thelema  and  Esoteric  themes.     

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Moonspell  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ancient  Winter  Goddess"  "The  Fever"  "Serpent  Angel"  and  "Tenebrarum  Pratorium".  8/7  out  of  10.

  Bells  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  while  the  vocals  are a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  clear  singing.  Elements  of  goth,  doom  and  dark  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  very  gothic  rock  and  darkwave  orientated  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  clear  female  and  male  vocals  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  clean  sections.

Cultus Sanguine Interview

 

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

We completed recordings and mastering in January, than we had a few gigs here in Italy, both headlining or festivals, all with a good response in performance and audience participation, then we practiced live version of the new album songs, now we are planning gigs in Europe and Italy, and starting creating new tunes of decadence.

2.In September you have a new album coming out, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

I think it keeps our shadow metal trademark with an improvement, we have grown in these years. as men, musicians and composers, our style is recognizable, and keeps the mark we left with "The sum of all fears", keeping our style alive.

3.The band was broken up for 17 years, what was the cause of the split up and the decision to reform?

We splitted one year after the release of The sum, stress among us was too high, the pressure in creating a new album better than previous damaged relationships among us, so we decided for a quit, even if keepin in touch among us, in fact, in 2018 during a talk between Federico (guitars) and me we spoke something like "do you know ? I am writing new stuff" ... "me too" , "ok, why dont we create a new album ?" and here we are.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years?

The main theme behind lyrics is the failure in life, all these lives going on day by day in the deeper grey, without passion, with poor relationships and no intentios; in my opinion this is one of the greatest tragedies, dont you agree ?

As lyric composer I wish my pen blade is sharper, and creates deeper wounds, as musicians we are imroved, and more closer among us, we rehearse weekly, so our understood is better, both as musicians and as friends, besides our life engangements as full time jobs and families we try to hang out together in order to share new ideas and for our friendship.

5,Most of the band members have been involved with underground metal for more than 3 decades, do you feel metal has changed a lot from the early era when you first formed the band?

It has changed a hell of it ! when we started back in '93 bands got signed to labels due to the quality of their demo tape, great songs and being original, now bands got deals due to the number of followers, and music in not a main point of choose, speaking music wise, and being a fan before a musician I see main events being a sort of "Best of 80ìs or 90's metal revival", and the bigger problem in music is the dramatic failure in records sales. 

6.Your music also stood out as being very different in the 90's, do you feel that you were a huge influence on the later black, dark and doom metal bands that came out in the past 3 decades"/

Yeah, back in early 90's bands like us, Deynonichus, Bethlehem played a weird mixture between dark, black and doom metal, mixed with a jant dose of insanity,  something that had influence and got extremized into funeral doom or dark metal, some bands admitted our influence in their music, and this is for us a pride , I think that this happened because when we started of course we put our influecies in our music , but we never tried to sound like a particular band. 

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

We always had weird artwork, dark and funeralish, all the images in "Dust once alive" were taken by a great friend of us, they have been shot in an abandoned mental hospital in Parma, 

Artwork for us has always been really important, it must drown the listener deeper into music and lyrics, and in my opinion this one reflects our music.

8.Out of all the shows the band has played over the years, which one stands out the most?

We have in our memory some great shows we had the opportunity to play, in the past I remind with great pleasure back in 2000 "Darkness upon Italy" festival with Carpathian Forest, Mortuary Drape, Opera IX, with a huge audience and all great performances from all the bands, among last ones we had a great show at Rock Hard Festival in Milan.

9.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

We are planning shows for the new album right now, so if some promoter is interested is welcome, we are planning a release party near Milan, and we will play the whole new album for that special gig, besides this we are already confirmed for some festivals in Italy and Europe. We cant plan a propher tour due to our full time jobs, but if someday will arrive a good opportunity we'll consider it

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black, dark and doom metal?

I think we are appreciated by fans of all these genres and also disliked by fans of all these genres ah ah, because we cant be recognized in a single genre, we dont have a defined audience, or not ? fans into REAL dark metal without gentle vocals or arrangements.

11.In 2021 you were also a part of a split with 'Black Oath', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?

Personally I love Black Oath ! they are a great band and first of all great people, I know them since 1995, and we are friends , we played a great gig together last year and personally I wait to share stage with them again, if we can we hang at each other gigs, I also had the opportunity to do guest vocals in their last great album. IN particular that tape is a limited tape we did for that show we did together and was sold out at the show.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Into a doomer, darker, weirder form, we are far from reaching the perfect funeral sound, so await new albums, we want to give a sound to the smell of tomb.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styled the band members are listening to nowadays?

Above all for me there are Celtic Frost, Devil Doll and Christian Death, then also Death SS,Bathory, Paradise Lost, Depeche Mode, Current 93 and Slayer, a strange mixture that maybe gives a picture of who we are.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

  Gospelheim  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  post  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Ritual  &  Repetition"  which  will b e  released  in  October  by  Prophecy  Productions.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  a  clean  goth  metal  style  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in a  great  amount  of  black  metal  elements  and  blast b eats.

  Synths  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  influences  of  post  metal  are  also  utilized  at  times  The  songs  also  add  in  a decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  female  vocals  can  also be  heard  briefly  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  album  also  ad d in  touches  of  doom  metal  and  some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking.

  Gospelheim  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  post  and  gothic  metal  and  mixes  it  with  dark  rock  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  existentialism  silent  horror  movies,  occultism  and  the  morality  of  the  human  condition.

  In  my  opinion  Gospelheim  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  post  and  gothic  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t hose  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Satan  Blues"  "Into  Smithereans"  and  "The  Hall  Of  the  Consumed".  8  out  of  10.

Moonspell/From Down Below - Live 80 Meters Deep/Napalm Records/2022 Live Album Review

 

  Portugal's  Moonspell  have  returned  with  a  live  recording  where  their  play  all  of  the  songs  from  their  2021  album  "Hermitage"  live  and  the  live  album  will  be  released  on  September  30th  by  Napalm  Records  and  is  called  "From  Down  Below  -  Live  80  Meters  Deep" .

An  intro  and  live  audience  reaction  starts  off  the  album  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.  Clear  gothic  metal  vocals  are  also  used  on  most  of  the  songs  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  Female  vocals  can  also b e  heard  briefly  along  with  the  harsh  vocals  also  bringing  in  elements  of  black  metal  and  keyboards  can  also b e  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized  briefly,  one  of  the  songs  is  also  an  instrumental  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  poetic  and  metaphysical  themes.

Acid Witch/Vaultwraith/Spooky Vol. II/Hells Headbangers/2021 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Michigan's  Acid  Witch  and  Ohio's  Vaultwraith  called  "Spooky  Vol.  II"  which  was  released  on  Halloween  by  Hells  Headbangers  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Acid  Witch  a  band  that  plays  a  psychedelic  form  of  doom/death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  doom  metal  sound  along  with  some  psychedelic  style  keyboards.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  screams  which  also  adds  in  touches  of  black  metal  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts also  being  utilized  briefly  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  an  old  school  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Witchcraft,  Horror  and  Drug  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Acid  Witch  are  a  very  great  sounding  psychedelic  mixture  of  doom  and  death  metal  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  and  if  you  a  fan  of t hose  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Cinema  Wasted".

  Next  up  is  Vaultwraith  who  return  with  their  mixture  of   black,  doom,  death,  thrash,  speed  and  heavy  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  80's  influenced  style  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  The  music  also  shows  some  influences  of  both  the  first  and second  wave  era's  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  and  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  riffing. 

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  old  school  style.  Influences  of   doom  metal  can  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  as  well  as  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vaultwraith  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of   black,  doom,  death,  thrash,  speed  and  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Prophecy  of  The  Black  Spider".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of b lack,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Moonspell/The Great Silver Eye/MDD Records/2021 Compilation Album Review

 

  Portugal's  Moonspell  have  returned  with  a  new  collection  which  showcases  the  material  they  have  released  in  the  90's  and  early  2000's  and  you  can  hear  both  the  black  and  gothic  metal  phases  of  the  bands  musical career  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  compilation  album  "The  great  Silver  Eye"  which  was  released  by  MDD  Records.

  Clean  playing  and  keyboards  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  start  off  the  compilation  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Grim  black  emtal  screams  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  compilation  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  clean  goth  metal  style  vocals.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  compilation  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  some  tracks  also  add  in  some  whispered  vocals.  Touches  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  music  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  some  songs  also  adding  in  elements  of  gothic  rock.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  percussion  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  track  also  introduces  trip  hop  style  beats  onto  the  compilation,  as  the  compilation  progresses    touches  of  industrial  can  also  be  heard  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  blast  beats  are  utilized  for  a  few  seconds.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Vampirism,  Macabre  Poetry  and  Philosophical  themes.       

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Moonspell  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vampiria"  "Raven  Claws"  "Soulsick"  and  "Capricorn  At  Her  Feet".  8  out  of  10.

DeathOmen Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

1. Band DeathOmen was founded by vocalist Marjan Macarol in 1988. He was joined by guitarist Miha Gerzej, and in 1989 by bassist Marko Štok and drummer Tomaž Vovk.

2.So far you have released one album, musically how does it differ from your previous demo's?

2. The album Above Holy Ground is our only release. The music sounded youthful and optimistic 30 years ago and at the same time more naive.

3.The band was broken up for 30 years, what was the cause of the split and also the decision to reform?

3. The breakup of the band DeathOmen happened spontaneously, we just didn’t have any more common paths. In 2017, three members felt the need to create together and then it was the  first time that we transformed the band into a project. As a result of that, the album Above Holy Ground was created.

4.Some of the lyrics cover occultism themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

4. When you start looking for answers, it is inevitable to face the occult. The only question is how much attention you will pay to it. If you are sincere in your search, you will soon realize that in the conception of existence and life, there is more hidden than revealed.

5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

5. Other themes of the texts refer to society as a whole, and man / individual as its basis. The world is small and the world is big. The man is big and the man is small. Civilization is all we are, and yet it is not much. The apocalypse will be a catastrophe for only a fraction of the universe. All other creations will not even perceive this doom.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'DeathOmen'?

6. The name DeathOmen comes from the time when there was still hope for mankind and it was meant as a warning. Today, however, that is a fact. Today, only the blind and stupid can deny its presence.

7.Can you tell us a little bit about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

7. The cover is intended as a simple, simplified presentation of the content of the album, both the introduction and the conclusion. Our letter logo and the actual, pictorial representation of the sign are presented. For easier understanding, it is further clarified that the DeathOmen will rise above the holy land. Of course, over Every holy land

8.Has the band had any opportunities to do any live shows?

8. There is no such possibility.

9.Currently the band is unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received ant interest?

9. No. We are independent artists and do not want to become part of show business. Our work was publicly published on 25.12.2020 and is available on the Bandcamp portal and on our Youtube page.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of underground metal?

10. Some really listened to the album and began to experience its greatness. One listening is far from enough, it needs to be listened to several times. Research is needed. For most listeners, however, the album simply slipped by.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

11. As a human race, we step into the night and let such music accompany us.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

DeathOmen/Above Holy Ground/2019 Full Length Review

 

  DeathOmen  are  a  band  from  Slovenia  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  with  elements  of  dark  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  album  "Above  holy  Ground".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  blackened  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  metal  elements.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  are  show  and  influence  of  thrash  metal.  One  of  the  tracks  also  introduces  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album  as  well  as  some  of  the  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  and  on  later  tracks  the  vocals  start  adding  in  more  of  a  first  wave  or  80's  metal  approach  and  on  the  closing  song  a  small  amount  of  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard.
