1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Maxx: When we decided to record "Human Decay", it was just before the pandemic, when we immediately decided to return to the Hurricane studio in Porto Alegre to record the album. I decided to bet again on the production of Sebastian Carsin, believing in a good result as it was on the first album, and that in fact happened. In January 2020 we recorded the album in a week and a half, it was a great challenge musically, and with focus and determination we managed to do a great job. A Few Lies Of Your Whole Light" and "My Savior", and with these and other videos we participated in the main online festivals in Brazil. We postponed the release of the album to October 31, 2021 due to the pandemic, and soon after it was released, there have been great reviews, and great repercussions among the public, including new fans.
2.Recently you have released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
Maxx: Crucifixion has always been a true band in everything they've done, always caring about their strong, unique, extreme and blasphemous identity. And the first works that we recorded up to the first full-length reflect what I felt and heard at the time. Comparing to the new work, I follow this philosophy, resulting in the current evolution where I continue with the same feeling but including new elements of death metal and blackened death metal, which stand out in this album. It wasn't premeditated at all, it was a natural evolution where black metal is still found on the new album.
3.This is also your first full length since 2014, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?
Maxx: We toured Brazil, then we toured Europe in 2015, then we continued to do shows in Brazil, and meanwhile we moved from Porto Alegre to São Paulo, got a new bass player (Beto Factus) and started writing songs for the new album, and saving money to start the recordings. It was a little slow process as we are an independent band.
4.A lot of your lyrics cover Anti Christianity and Anti Catholic themes, can you tell us a little bit more about yuor hatred for these religions?
Maxx: Christianity is pure hypocrisy. People pretend to do good by going to church, but they are false in their ideologies. These are people who affirm a philosophy of goodness and act in a contradictory way.
5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored over the years with their music?
Maxx: More personal matters, about having your inner strength, and focusing on yourself, on your own energy, on your life, going after your goals.
6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
Maxx: Made by Rômulo Dias, it represents the decay of society over the years, with the goddess Hel representing both something pagan and the people who contributed to gradually destroy the world, both spiritually and physically. It is as if there is a revolt on the planet towards its ungrateful inhabitants.
7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Maxx: The best shows were opening for Dark Funeral, Gama Bomb, opening for Krisiun, and some of the shows we did in Europe were awesome! Our performance is energetic and intense, we urge the audience to interact with us in our brutal atmosphere.
8.You also have a few guests on the new album, can you tell us a little bit more about who they are and also their contributions to the recording?
Maxx: We had André Rod, vocalist and bassist of the Brazilian Thrash Metal band Attomica doing backing vocals on the song "Human Decay", and Dave Ingram from Benediction (ex-Bolt Thrower) sharing vocals on "Bloody Fire Victory", which was a great honor.
9.The album was released through both 'Die Hard' and 'Shinigami Records', can you tell us a little bit more about these record labels?
Max: In fact the album was released by Shinigami Records only, 'Die Hard' is just one of the stores in São Paulo that distribute the CDs released by Shinigami Recs. Shinigami also released the first album "Destroying The Fucking Disciples Of Christ" in Brazil in 2015, after we released an American version in 2014 by HPGD Recs in the US. Shinigami Recs. is a good partner here in Brazil. This time we decided to launch here and export the Brazilian CD to the world through bandcamp.
10.On a wordlwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?
Maxx: We are increasingly gaining new fans who didn't know about our work before this second album. And the reaction of those who already knew us is excellent, they reacted very well to our musical evolution.
11.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?
Maxx: Bassist Beto Factus also plays in the band "Nephall", and lead guitarist Rafael Orsi has his side project called "Anger". Drummer Juliana Novo has already done other projects as vocalist ("Dremora" from USA, "Lamented Despondency" from Slovakia and "Noctis Notus" from Brazil). As for me, Maxx Guterres, I took part in Noctis Notus and other bands as a drummer, but all those projects have ended their activities.
12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Maxx: I see the same band musically speaking, with some technical evolution but following the same style that is Blackened Death Metal.
13.What are you listening to nowadays?
Maxx: Hard Rock, Death Metal and some Black Metal.
14.How would you describe your views on Occultism?
Maxx: I've found it more interesting in the past, but nowadays I give it less value, it's no longer part of my philosophy of life.
15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
