Bunker 66/Vuil/Metal Sacrifice/Ripping Storm Records/2019 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Germany's  Bunker  66  and  Scotland's  Vuil  called  "Metal  Sacrifice"  which  will  be  released on  December  17th  by  Ripping  Storm  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Bunker  66  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  speed  and  heavy  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  old  school  sound  along  with  some  blast  beats  a  few  seconds  later.  The  music  also  mixes  in  some  elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  along  with  the  vocals  being  first  wave  black  metal  style  screams  which  also a dds  in a   touch  of  the  second  wave  era.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  an  80's  style.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bunker  66  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Army  Of  The  Dark".

  Next  up  is  Vuil  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of   thrash  and  speed  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy and  retro  sound  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  some  elements  of  thrash and  speed  metal. Vocals  are  done  in  a  very  rough  yet  melodic  80''s metal  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in a   decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's.

  Both  of  their  tracks  sound  like  they  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released  more  than  30  years  ago  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  style  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  evil  and  blasphemy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vuil  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  if  you  are a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Head  Basher".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  emtal.  8  out  of  10.

Nocturnal Breed/The Whiskey Tapes Germany/Folter Records/2018 Compilation Review

  Nocturnal  Breed  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  compilation  album  "The  Whiskey  Tapes  Germany"  which  will  be  released  on  May  31st  by  Folter  Records.

  AM  radio  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  soundscapes  before  going  into  a  Metal  Church  cover  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  capture  the  rough  and  melodic  singing  style  of  the  original  version  and  the  solos and  leads  also  stick  to  an  old  school  style.

  They  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  W.A.S.P's  "I'm  Alive"  while  later  tracks  introduce  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  a  more  hard  rock/metal  style  as  well  as  a   brief  use  of  guitar  slides  before  going  into  a  cover  of  Death's  "Evil  Dead".

  They  also  cover  Twisted  Sister's  under  The  Blade"  W.A.S.P's  "Ballcrusher"  and  Anthrax's  "Metal  Thrashing  Mad"  before  going  into  their  original  tracks  which  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  and  first  wave  black  metal  elements  while  keyboards  are also  utilized  at  times  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  being  used  briefly  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  compilation  Nocturnal  Breed  bring  in  a  mixture  of  both  covers  and  their  original  tracks  which  are  done  in  a  very  old  school  blackened  thrash  metal  style  along  with  most  of  them  being  from  earlier  albums,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  War,  Alcohol  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Nocturnal  breed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Metal  Church"  "Under  The  blade"  "Rape  The  Angels"  and  "Alcoholic  Rites".  8  out  of  10.

Crypt Rot/Cringe/Nocturnal Deterioration/Memento Mori/Redefining Darkness Records/Seeing Red Records/2018 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Ohio's  Crypt  Rot  and  Cringe  called  "Nocturnal  Deterioration/Memento  Mori"  which  will be  released  in  February  as  a  joint  effort  between  Redefining  Darkness  and  Seeing  Red  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Crypt  Rot  a  band  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  with  a  touch  of hardcore punk  and  d  beat.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy,  brutal  and  old  school  death  metal  sound  which  also  ses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  before  speeding  up  and  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  hardcore  punk  and  d  beat  elements  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  music  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  extreme  metal  style  and  clean  playing  and  female  vocals  is  also  added  onto  the  second  track  which  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  Crypt  Rot  expand  on  their  blackened  death  metal  by  adding  in  more  hardcore  punk and  d  beat  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Crypt  Rot  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Serpentine  Atonement".

  Next  up  is  Cringe  a  band  that  plays  a  crossover  mixture  of  thrash,  punk  and  hardcore.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavily  80's  influenced  thrash  sound  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  elements  of  hardcore  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  angry  shouts.

  Blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  when  the  music  speeds  up  and  while  the  music  has  its  roots  in  the  past  it  still  captures  a  modern  atmosphere  along  with  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  influences  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  one  track  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Cringe  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  thrash,  punk  and  hardcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  angry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Cringe  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  thrash,  punk  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  those  musical  genres, you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Tribulation".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  death,  thrash  metal,  punk  and  hardcore.  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Norway's  Turbocharged  and  Poland's  Ragehammer  called  "Enlightenment  By  Bloddletting"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Godz  Of  War Productions  and  Mythrone Promotion  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Turbocharged  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  old  school  thrash  metal  sound  and  once  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and w hen  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  more  closer  to  the  80's  style  of  death  metal  and  you can  also  hear  a  touch  of  first  wave  black  metal  in  the  music  and  the  solos and  leads  add  some  melody  into  the  song  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  anti  christian  themes.

  In  my opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Turbocharged  ad  if  you  are  a  fan  of  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Ragehamer  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal.

 Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  powerful  sounding  bass  and  melodic  guitar  riffs  before  adding  in  black  metal  screams  and  thrash  influences and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  song  sticks  to  either  a  mid  paced  or  fast  musical  direction  and  there  is  also  a  small  amount  of  back  up  shouts, the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Faustian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ragehammer  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Swamp/Fetid Zombie/Necromantic Passages/Morbid Visions Music/2015 Split Cassette Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Greece's  Swamp  and  U.S.A's  Fetid  Zombie  called  "Necromantic  Passages"  which  will  be  released  on  September  15th  by  Morbid  Visions  Music  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Swamp  a  band  that  plays  on  old  school  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  guitar  sound  that  evolves  into  more  of  a  blackened  thrash  metal  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  growling  vocals  that  also  add  a  touch  of  death  metal  to  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

The  music  is  mostly  rooted  in  the  80's  while  also  having  having  a  more  modern  touch  and  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them   and  when  solos  are  used  they  are  very  melodic  and  old  school  sounding,  on  the  second  track  they  do  a  Tormentor  cover  while  also  closing  their  side  of  the  split  with  one  of  their  own  songs,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  blasphemy,  war  and  anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Swamp  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Inside  The  Catcomb  Of  The  Undead".

  Next  up  is  Fetid  Zombie  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  exotic  sounding  acoustic  guitars  which  also  leads  up  to  more  of  a  ritualistic  sound  that  also  uses  demonic  chanting  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  melodic  death  metal  direction  as  well  as  the  leads  also  using  old  school  melodies  and  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  growling  fashion.

  Elements  of  Greek  black  metal  can  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  synths  that  makes  the  music  more  atmospheric  at  times  and  the  riffs  at  times  also  bring  in  elements  of  thrash  and  traditional  metal  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  are  utilized,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism  and  horror themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Fetid  Zombie  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  sp  RECOMMENDED  TRACK "Oracle  Of  Death".

  In  my  opinion  this  is  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  8 out  of  10.

Persecutor/Poisoned/Raw Torments Of War/Under the Tyrant's Banner Productions/2014 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Poland's  Persecutor  and  Poisoned  which  is  called  "Raw  Torments  Of  War"  and  was  released  by  Under  the  Tyrant's  Banner  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Persecutor  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal.

  A  very  heavy  and  old  school  thrash  metal  sound  starts  off  their  side  of  the  split  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  goes  into  a  direction  that  is  close  to  first  wave  black  metal  music  wise  but  has  vocals  that  are  in  the  more  second  wave  style  along  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized.

  When  guitar  leads  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  in  the  mid  80's  direction  of  early  death  metal  which  is  also  a  big  part  of  the  bands  musical  style  and  they  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  they  also  add  elements  of  groove  into  their  musical  style  and  as  their  music  progresses  deep  demonic  growls  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  they  also  bring  in  small  amounts  of  melodic  riffing  at  times.

  Persecutor  create  a  very  interesting  sound  with  their  music  using  black  metal  vocals  and  combining  them  with  both  modern  and  old  school  thrash  metal  but  in  a  more  blackened  manner  as  well  as  adding  a  touch  of  death  metal  in  their  musical  style  which  results  in  4  metal  tunes  that  are  very  heavy  and  brutal,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  blasphemy,  war  and  darkness.

 In  my  opinion  Persecutor  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sadistic  Sacrifice"  and  "Armageddon  Warhead".

  Next  up  is  Poisoned  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  metal  and  thrash.

  An  80's  style  thrash  sound  starts  off  their  side  of  the  split  and  then  the  music  gets  a  bit  more  faster  and  adds  in  early  death  metal  style  vocals  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  the  bands  music  style  is  very  raw  and  sounds  very  close  to  the  1986  style  of  death  metal  when  it  was  still  heavily  tainted  with  thrash  elements.

  On  the  second  track  lead  guitars  are  added  in  briefly  and  the  band  sticks  to  a  very  old  school  style  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  the  music  they  play  can  easily  be  mistaken  for  an  underground  demo  that  was  released  in  the  80's  and  they  stay  away  from  all  modern  day  trends  and  proudly  show  the  roots  of  the  genre  and  the  last  track  is  a  cover  of  Massacra's  Ultimate  Anti  Christ..

  Poisoned  bring  back  a  style  that  is  almost  30  years  old  and  shows  why  a  lot  of  old  school  death  metal  and  thrash  still  sound  heavy  even  today  and  this  is  not  music  meant  for  posers  or  trend  followers,  the  production   sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  war  and  devil  worship  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Poisoned  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Atomic  Discharge"  and  "Ultimate  Antichrist".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  8/5  out  of  10.

Gravehill/When All Roads Lead To Hell/Dark Descent Records/2011 CD Review

  Gravehill are a band from California that has had their previous album reviewed in this zine that plays a style that I would describe as being a mixture of black, death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2011 album "When All Roads Lead To Hell" which was released by Dark Descent Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a lot of brutal sounding blast beats, while the bass playing is kind of mixed down low in the mix and seems to follow the riffs that are coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that combine influences from black, death and thrash metal with some morbid sounding melodies being utilized at times, while the lead guitars are very distorted sounding underground metal guitar solos in the mid 80's to Early 90's vein.

Vocals are a mixture of black metal and blackened death/metal screams that also have German thrash feel to them and some deep death metal growls as well as samples from films, while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, War, Killing and Metal, as for the production it has a very heavy and raw feel to it.

In my opinion this is another great album from Gravehill and if you where a fan of their previous releases, you will not be disappointed. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unholy Executioner" "Devil Worshiper" "Hell Metal Holocaust" and "Consumed By Rats". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Legion Of The Damned Interview

1. Can you update us with what is going on with the band these days?
-Actually just preparing for the neckbreakers ball tour, we are leaving tonight

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the album and how does it
differ from the previous releases?
-The sound is whats most different if you compare this one to Cult of the dead, also we took more time
in writing the new songs, they are alot more groovies this time. Musically in general it didn't change much

3. What are some of the lyrical concepts and topics the new releases
explores?
-The concept of Descend into Chaos is loosely focused on terror and violence as occurring in cultural myth and reality - from mankind's historical penchant for violence to Lovecraftian horrors that undermine the anthropocentric worldview. Lyrical themes from previous albums continue and reoccur but this time a little more focused violence, while the antichristian theme is less prominent. Current titles are Killzone, Night of the Sabbath, Repossessed, Lord of the Flies, Holy Blood Holy War, Shrapnel Rain, The Hand of Darkness, They Drew First Blood and one other tentatively titled Desolation Empire, and an intro.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the band name Legion of
The Damned?
-There is no real meaning behind it. It comes from WWII, there are several books on The Legion of the damned. We got it from our song Legion of the damned and we had to figure a new name within days.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and
how would you describe your stage performance?
We have done tons of shows, so its hard to describe which one was/is the best. A stage performance from legion is agressive and straight in your face I must say, especially when we play the smaller clubs, which I prefer the most

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new releases?
Yes the neckbreakers ball tour in europe with Kataklysm that we are doing starting tomorrow.

7. Are there any current side projects going on these days with the
other band members?
Not that I know off, but then again the band is sucking up alot of our free times already

8. On a worldwide level how has your new album been recieved by extreme
metal fans?
Excellent. All of our albums have been picked up really well

9. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
As for Legion of the damned? I have no idea, I am happy we have this release on the shelf, no idea what the future will bring

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your
music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Band influences come from the bands from the 80's, Slayer, Possessed, Pestilence, Dark angel, Death, Destruction, Sodom. I listen to whole range of bands from thrash to Death metal to Mayhem/Darkthrone/bathory

11. Does Occultism or Satanism play any role in your music?
Our lyricwriter Tony is into this and he writes lyrics about it, he is the one who wrote all the lyrics for Legion of the damned

12.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
I am running my own video production company and work for nuclearblast, so my free time enjoyments are also my works. My intrests are mostly into film stuff and computers, 3d animation, stuff like that

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
