Through Mists/Summon The Severed/Syrup Moose Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Canada's  solo  project  Through  Mists  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  progressive  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  the  album  was  released  in  2023  by  Syrup  moose  Records  and  called  "Summon  The  Severed".

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  music  also  gets  very  technical at  times.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  some  clear  singing  also  being  utilized  at  times  the  music  also  has  its  progressive  moments.

  Synths  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  piano's  can  also  be  heard  briefly

  On  this  recording  Through  Mists  brings  out  a  very  technical,  progressive  and  blackened  style  of  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  a  protagonist  known  as  the  Traveller,  seeking  to  redeem  himself  and  to  free  himself  and  others  from  the  tyranny  and  whims  of  the  gods.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Through  Mists  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nest  of  Blood  &  Sin"  "In  Out  Image"  and "Summon The  Severed  Pt  III".  8  out  of  10.

Through Mists/Homicidal Hamsters/Syrup Moose Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Through  Mists  are  a  solo  project  from  Montreal,  Quebec,  Canada  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on t his  recording  goes  for  a  very  progressive  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Homicidal  Hamsters'  which  was  released  by  Syrup  Moose  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  At  times  the  music  also gets  very  progressive  sounding  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  technical  style  while  most of  the  songs  are  also  instrumentals.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  very  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  pianos  onto  the  album  and  when  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Through  Mists  brings  out  a  very  progressive  style  of  blackened  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  on  science  experiments  by  Australian  scientists  on  hamsters  which  also  turned  them  into  cannibals.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Through  Mists  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Homicidal  Hamsters"  "Tonight  We  Dine  On  Each  Other"  and  "Hunting  The  Ones  Up  High".  8  out  of  10.

  Through  Mists  are  a  solo  project  from  Montreal,  Quebec,  Canada  that  plays  a  very  progressive  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Starkiller"  which  was  released  by  Syrup  Moose  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  clean  singing  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  Synths  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  progressive  moments  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  short  in  length,  angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

 

  Through  Mists  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  progressive  and  brutal  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  metaphysics,  philosophy  and  anti  religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Through  Mists  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  blackened  death  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Blessings  Undone"  "Depraved  Telepathic  Beings"  "Polluted  Mindwarp"  and  "Starkiller".  8  out  of  10.
