Tyrannus/Mournhold/True Cult Records/2026 Full Length Review

Scotland's  Tyrannus  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  death,  thrash  metal  and  post  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Mournhold"  which  will  be  released  on  May  15th  by  True  Cult  Records.

Synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  touches  of  post  punk  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  keyboards  and  clean  playing  is  utilized  they  also  take  the  music  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  direction  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal  as  well  as  some  of  the  vocals  adding  in  more  of  a  thrash  metal  style  and  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

On  this  recording  Tyrannus  takes  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  death,  thrash  metal  and  post  punk  to  create  something  very  different  from  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Lovecraftian  Horror  and  Anti  Fascism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tyrannus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black,  death,  thrash  metal  and  post  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Violent  Inheritance"  "Flesh  Eternal"  and  "Back  To  Grey'.  8  out  of  10.

Tyrannus/Magicide/Tony Punching Music/Fiadh Productions/2023 Split EP Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  United  Kingdom's  Tyrannus  and  Magicide  called  "Tony  Punching  Music"  which  was  released  by  Fiadh  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Tyrannus  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  thrash,  speed  metal  and  crust  punk  elements  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  the  song  also  adding  in  some  slow  and  mid  tempo  sections  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  and  the  lyrics  cover  police  brutality  and  corruption  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Tyrannus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

Next  up  is  Magicide  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  mixture  of  industrial,  ebm  and  metal.

His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  electronic  beats  which  also  bring  in  elements  of  industrial  and  ebm  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  extreme  metal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  both  tracks  being  short  in  length,  spoken  word  parts  and  black  metal  screams can  also b e  heard  briefly  and  the  production  sounds  very  professional.

In  my  opinion  Magicide  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  industrial,  edm  and  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should c heck  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Tony  Punching  Music".

In  conclusion  i  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  industrial,  edm,  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Tyrannus/Unslayable/True Cult Records/2022 Full Length Review

Tyrannus  are  a  band  from  Scotland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Unslayable"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  True  Cult  Records.

Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  elements  and  the  guitar  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  chaotic  style.

Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  a  lot  of  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  death  metal  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  synths  onto  the  recording,  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  and  the  two  closing  songs  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length,  clear  vocals  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  Existentialism,  Lovecraftian  Horror  and  Anti  Fascism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tyrannus  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  black, death,  thrash  and  speed  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Worse  Reality"  "Unslayable"  and  "Break  the  Will  of  Evil".  8  out  of  10.

Tyrannus/It Taketh/Born Too Late Tapes/2021 Demo Review

Tyrannus  are  a  band  from  Scotland  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  with  some  psychedelic  atmospheres  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  demo  "It  Taketh"  which  was  released  by  Born  Too  Late  Tapes.

A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  Elements  of  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  80's  to  early  90's  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

When  clean  playing  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  psychedelic  touch  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  some  synths  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  ep  closing  with  an  instrumental.

Tyrannus  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  mixes  it  with  some  psychedelic  atmospherics  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Lovecraftian  Horror  and  Anti  Fascism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Tyrannus  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  with  some  psychedelic  atmospheres  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Flood".  8  out  of  10.
