Mages Terror/Damnations Sight/Invictus Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Mages  Terror  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Damnations  Sight"  which  will  be  released  on  July  12th  by  Invictus  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams.  Elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  the  fast  riffs.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  and 90's  while  also  being  modern  at  the  same  time.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  more  of  an  old  school  death  metal  style  along  with  some  growls  also  being  used  at  times  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  one  song  also  also  an  instrumental  and  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  album.,

  Mages  Terror  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  80's  and  90's  era  of  black,  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  Mages  Terror  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death, thrash  and  speed  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Serpent  Bat"  "Ruthless  Guild"  and  "Damnations  Sight".  8 out  of  10.

Sociasylum/Harmony Of Discordance/2024 EP Review

 

  Sociasylum  are  a  band  from  Estonia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  grind  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  ep  "Harmony  Of  Discordance".

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  some  grindcore  elements  and  blast  beats  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  A  lot  of  the  mid  tempo  sections  are  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  hardcore  and  d  beat  while  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing,  spoken  word  samples  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  

  Sociasylum  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  metal, crust,  grind  and  hardcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  suffering  through  abuse  of  power  and  the  struggle  to  survive.

  In  my  opinion  Sociasylum  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  crust,  grind  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Vanity".  8  out  of  10.

Sibiir/Undergang/Fysisk Format Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Siibir  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Undergang"  which  was  released  by  Fysisk  Format  Records.

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into a   heavier  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  blackened  metal  screams  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  being  more  heavily  rooted  in  post  hardcore.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grindcore  elements  can  also  be  heard.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  tremolo  picking  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing.

  Some  of  the  riffs  also  mix  in  touches  of  blackgaze  and  thrash  metal  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental  and  when  guitar  leads  are  finally  introduced  on  the  album  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  some  of  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  semi  melodic  tone.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  political  reality  of  today's  world.  

  In  my  opinion  Siibir  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  hardcore  band  and  if  you  are  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Divergence  And  Deceit"  "The  Flood"  and  "The  Famine".  8  out  of  10.

Vein/Self Titled/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Vein  are  a  solo  project  from  Ireland  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric,  progressive  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  titled  and  self  released  2024  album.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  progressive  and  atmospheric  sounding  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  one  of  the  tracks  is  an  acoustic  instrumental  before  closing  the  album  with  a  heavier  song  that  also  has  no  use  of  vocals  and  the  whole  recording  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  Vein  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  slow,  atmospheric  and  progressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  anti  religion  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vein  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  progressive  blackened  death  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ashen"  and  "Returnal".  8  out  of  10.
