Apparatus are a band from Denmark that plays an experimental and blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 album which will be released in October by Lavadome Productions.
Clean yet distorted guitar playing starts off the album and a few seconds later grim black metal screams start to find their way onto the recording and can also get very high pitched at times and after the intro the music starts going into more of a heavy and avant garde musical direction along with some deep death metal growls.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats are utilized along with the music going into more of a blackened death metal direction and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some melodic chanting being utilized at times and some tracks also bring in a small amount of pianos that also gives the music more of an experimental feeling while later songs also bring in a brief use of clean singing and ritualistic spoken word parts.
Apparatus plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in blackened death metal capturing the darkness and brutality of the genre while also mixing in ritualistic, avant garde and experimental elements to create a style of t heir own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover H.P Lovecraft, Mythology and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Apparatus are a very great sounding experimental blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "R'lyeh" "Miskantic" and "Arkham". 8 out of 10.
