I Cooiri del Buio Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

The band was born in 2022 from an idea of Luca (guitarist and main composer) and Fabio, work colleagues. Luca comes from the classic gothic/black of the 90s, while Fabio is very influenced by the doom/stoner of the early 90s. From this basis the project "I Colori del Buio" was born and shortly after Nicola was added as a singer, a big fan of Moonspell . With this lineup the first EP "Wird Tales" was produced, published in November 2023. At present the band is complete after the inclusion of the drummer Fabio who boasts various collaborations at a European level in the black/grind field and the second guitarist Andrea, with trash influences and well-known guitar teacher from Modena.

2.You had an ep that was released in November, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

Starting from the songs written by Luca, we tried to insert the influences of Fabio and Nicola into the composition. In fact, it is possible to listen to Sabbath-style riffs typical of stoner/doom with rough sounds and vocal variations from growl to scream to clean coming from gothic/black. Even in the studio we gave a lot of importance to the sounds, trying to use modern plugins and reamping effects without forgetting the classic dark atmospheres of the 90s.

3.A lot of your lyrics cover horror themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

The EP is a clear reference to Lovecraftian literature. Weird Tales is the American magazine where H.P. Lovecraft published his stories. It deals with all the dark topics, from the otherworldly, to introspection and various ancestral dimensions. Being readers of Lovecraft, we tried to translate the moods we feel during readings into music.

4.I know that the band name means 'The Colors of the Dark' in Italian, how does this name fit in with the musical style that yo play?

I would use the quote from a well-known film "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get" and replace the word life with darkness. This is our style, various influences that converge in multifaceted songs always trying to maintain dark atmospheres.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

It is a natural monolith located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, it was photographed by Luca's wife, a photography enthusiast and graphic designer. The subject appears to be a place of worship in the Norse era.

6.Jas the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

We haven't gone live yet, for the moment we are dedicating ourselves to the production of the album which will be released during 2024. We will certainly take live shows into consideration as soon as the recording of the album is finished.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

For the moment we do not have any type of contract. I believe that to propose yourself to a label you need to have a complete album. The EP helped us get feedback from the public. Certainly with an album under our belt we will go looking for a label.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black, doom and gothic metal?

The reviews we have received have been very positive. The comments highlighted the dark atmospheres which was precisely our goal. This clearly outlines the band's character for the future too.

9.When can we expect a gull length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

The full length is scheduled for summer 2024, in February we will start recording in the studio. In principle we will keep the same line as the EP even if songs of longer duration will be included so there will be no shortage of surprises. For the post-album we already have an EP on a dedicated topic (for the moment it's top secret LOL) and we are already working on a second album.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

As I said previously, we all come from the metal field but with very different facets. In the band there are those who listen to Slayer and trash in general and those who listen to Katatonia, Hypocrsy or Moonspell. I personally listen to a lot of Dopelord or Electric Wizard. On the album it will certainly be possible to hear this versatility of the band.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

And here too we can find many differences between us. They range from photography to travel to reading. I personally have been practicing diving and underwater photography for many years.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I hope that our commitment will be repaid not with money but with an audience that is enthusiastic about listening to our songs. In addition to this, I would like to dedicate a thought to the new generations: dedicating oneself consistently to music in any form is the best way to face everyday life.

I Colori del Buio/Weird Tales/2023 EP Review

I  Colori  del  Buio  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  ep  "Weird  Tales".

Dark  soundscapes  and  whispered  vocals  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  keyboards  bring  in  elements  of  gothic  metal.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a very  melodic  style  along  with  the  vocals  bringing  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era,  when t he  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  most  of  the  recording  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

I  Colori  del  Buio  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  90's  era  of  black,  gothic,  doom  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror  themes.

In  my  opinion  I  Colori  del  Buio  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  gothic,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Burn  Your  Witch".  8  out  of  10.
