Destroying The Devoid/Paramnesia/Unique Leader/2016 CD Review

  Destroying  The  Devoid  are  a  band  from  California  that  plays  a  progressive  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016 album  "Paramnesia"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Unique  Leader.

  Classical  style  piano's  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  orchestra  sounds  which  after  mixes  in  with  the  heavy  and  brutal  sound  that  kicks  in  a  few  seconds  later  and  it  is  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  progressive  edge  and  the  vocals  bring  in  mostly  death  metal  growls  with  some  black  metal screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  technical  direction  while  the  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  and  classical  guitars  are  also  brought  into  the  music  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast parts  while the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  use  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  fast  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  spoken  word  samples  are  also utilized  at  times  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  modern  prog  metal  elements  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  all  instrumental  and  a  couple  of  the  songs  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing.

  Destroying  The  Devoid  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  progressive  and  blackened  styles  of  death  metal  and  mixes  them  with  some  orchestra  elements  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes along  with  the  last  3  tracks  having  a  concept  to  them.

  In  my  opinion  Destroying  The  Devoid  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Endless  Cycles  Of  Lunacy"  and  "Paramnesia".  8  out  of  10.

The Anthagonist/When Bloody Sunset Arives/Downfall Records/2016 EP Review

  The  Anthagonist  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  very technical  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "When  Bloody  Sunset  Arrives"  which  will  be  released  on July  31st  by  Downfall  Records.

  Melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  ep  and  after  a  few  seconds  morbid  sounding  melodies  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  solos and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  technical  style  while  still  using  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  fast  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount of  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  black  metal  vibe  and  the  vocals  also  bring  in  high  pitched  screams  and  whispers  at  times  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing.

  The  Anthagonist  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  brutal  while  also  being  very  technical  at  the  same  time,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  occult  and  evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  The  Anthagonist  are  a very  great  sounding  technical  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Son  Of  The  Sun"  and  "Last  Sunset".  8  out  of  10.

Ahwawe/Black Speed Rock 'n' Rollers/Sepulchral Silence Records/2016 Single Review

  Ahvawe  are  a  band  from  Mexico  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  speed  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  single  "Black  Speed  Rock  'n'  Rollers"  which  was  released  by  Sepulchral  Silence  Records.

  Vehicle  sounds  start  off  the  song  before  going  into  more  of  an  old  school  speed/thrash  metal  direction  that  is  very  close  to  the  early  80's  and  after  awhile  black  metal  vocals a re  added  onto  the  recording  that  have  the  grimness  of  the  second  wave  while  still  utilizing  more  of  a  fist  wave  touch  and  when  the  music  speeds  up a  decent  amount  of  blast   beats  can  be  heard  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style.

  Ahvawe  creates another  track  that  takes  the  first  and  second  wave  styles  of  black  metal  and  mixes  in  speed  and  thrash  elements  to  create  some  music  that  is  very  retro,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  heavy  metal  and  rock'n'roll  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Ahvave  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  black,  speed  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  8  out  of  10.

Division Vansinne Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band? Answer: Division vansinne was created in 2008 with the purpose to make olddeath/blackmetal from the 90s and try to combine the best from both genre. Some of us from the band are from the old scene and had a vision to create the old feeling again.

2.Recently you have released an album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording? Answer: Death/blackmetal from the early 90s.Extreme with other words.

 3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band exploreswith the music? Answer: I would say Demonical , pain , torture war and death. As it should be I guess.

 4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Division Vansinne'? Answer: It cant be so hard to get it. “Division Insane” mentally fucked band members.

 5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance? Answer: We have not made so many gigs. The ones we couldn’t have blood on stage was worthless.

6.Do you have any touring or show plansfor the future? Answer: No. The band is splitup recently but I guess some of us will continue with other projects/Soloprojects as well.

7.The album was released on 'Black Lion Productions', are you happy with the support they have given you so far? Answer:No problems so far. As always it’s a lot of work and sometimes takes longer time then expected but that is nothing strange at all.

 8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal? Answer: Don’t really know yet about this album but what I heard so far people are satisfied with the material.

 9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? Answer: Nowhere but as the members are from a shitty planet I guess the inspiration for more brutal recordings will catch our lives sooner or later.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? Answer: Can only speak for myself in this question but I would say mostly from the 90s and a very twisted mind.

Nerodia/Vanity Unfair/Revalve Records/2016 CD Review

  Nerodia  are  a  band  from  Italy  that plays  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  with  some  death  metal  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of their  2016  album  "Vanity  Unfair"  which  was  released  by  Revalve  Records.

  Clean  playing  and  nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  and  after  the  intro the  music goes  into  a  heavier  thrash  metal  direction  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in a decent  amount  of  melody and  the  songs  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times.

  While  there  is  a  lot  of  80's  influences  in  the  bands  musical  style  the music  still  sounds  very  modern  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  in  a darker  style  of  death  metal  and  the  fast  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  the  energy  of  punk  rock  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  also  makes  a  brief  return  and  on  of  the  later  tracks  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  melodic  singing  and  the  last  track  is  instrumental  and  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  keyboards.

  Nerodia  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  metal  and  thrash  and  mixes  them  together  with  a  more  modern  track  and also  adding  in  touches  of  punk  and  death  metal  to  create  a  very  heavy  musical  sound,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Ant  Human  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nerodia  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  thrash  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Necromorphine  Awakening"  "Souldead"  "Anti  Human  Propaganda"  and  "Celebration  of  The  Weak".  8   out  of  10.

 Division  Vansinne  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  20`16  album  "Dimension  Darkness"  which  was  released  by  Black  Lion  Productions.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  after  a  few  seconds  demonic  vocals  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier   black  metal  direction that  also uses  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.

  A  lot  of  death  metal  influences  can  be  heard  in  the  music  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  death  metal  growling  fashion  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  and  as  the  album  progresses  there  is  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  they  close  the  album  with  an  avant  garde  style  outro.

  Division  Vansinne  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  black  and  death  metal  styles  of  the  90's  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Swedish  and  English  and  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Division  Vansinne  are  a very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out t his  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Goathorns  Ritual"  "Sadistic  Love  Session"  "Ritual"  and  "Dimension  Darkness".  8  out  of  10.   

Abominant/Napalm Reign/Deathgasm Records/2016 CD Review

  Kentucky's  Abominant  have  returned  with  a  new album  that  continues  the  brutal  blackened death  metal  sound  of  previous  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Napalm  Reign"  which  will  be  released  on  July  29th  by  Deathgasm  Records.

  War  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  introduces  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  morbid  sounding  melodies  and  after  awhile  death  metal  growls  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  stick  to  a  very  dark  and  melodic musical  direction  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  thrash  elements  while  also  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  a  couple  of  the tracks  also  brings  in  power  metal style  vocals  along  with  the  riffs  adding  in  speed  metal  influences  while  most  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  more  brutal  style  and  there  is  also  a  brief  instrumental  that  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  before  closing  the  album  with  2  vocal  songs..

  Abominant  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  blackened  death  metal  sound  of  previous  recordings  while  also  adding  in  more  speed  and  thrash metal  elements  as  well  as  expanding  on  the  black  metal  influences,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  darkness,  and  evil  themes.

  In  my opinion  this  is  another great  sounding  recording  from  Abominant  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "No  Peace"  "Iron  Clad"  "As  Evil  Rears  Its  Head"  and  "Screaming  In  The  Night".  8  out  of  10.
