Dystheist/Ad Divinvs Malvm Caro Factvm Est/Sepulchral Silence Records/2016 EP Review

  Dystheist  are  a  band  from  Missouri  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Ad  Divinvs  Malvm  Caro  Factvm  Est"  which  was  released  by  Sepulchral  Silence  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  there  are  also  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  influences  throughout  the  recording  and a  couple  of  the  tracks are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

 Clean  singing  vocals  along  with  black  metal  screams  can  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  guitars.

  Dystheist  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  dark  and  heavy  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Latin  and  cover  dark  and  occult  themes.

Evil Spirit/Cauldron Messiah/Terror From Hell Records/2016 CD Re-Issue Review

 Evil  Spirit  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Cauldron  Messiah"  which  was  re-issued  by  Terror  From  Hell  Records.

 Evil  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  singing  vocals  and  after  a  few  seconds  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier direction  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  that  are  black  metal  influenced  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  you  can  also  hear  some  dark  sounding  melodies  in  the  riffs.

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  doom  metal  and  the  clear  vocals  bring  in some  of t he  more  early  80's  side  of  the  genre  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  after  awhile  more  old  school  death  metal  elements  can  be  heard  in  the  music  along  with  a  small  amount  of  growling  vocals  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  clean  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  last  track.

  Evil  Spirit  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  doom  metal  while  also  adding  in  black  and  death  metal  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  divine  comedy,  religions  and  gore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Evil  Spirit  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out t his  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eye  Of  The  Beholder"  and  "Cauldron  Messiah".  8  out  of 10.

Traitorr/Globomination/Metal Bunker Media/2015 CD Review

 Traitorr  are a  band  from  Victoria,  British  Columbia,  Canada  that  plays  a  heavy  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and this  is  a  review  of  their  2015 album  "Globomination"  which  was  released  by  Metal  Bunker  Media.

  A  very  distorted  drone  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  an aggressive  and  heavy  direction  along  with  some  vocals  that  mix  in  thrash  style  yelling  in  with  some growls  as  well  a s some  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  A  great  amount  of  thrash  and  death  metal  influences  can  be  heard  in  the  music  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  get  very  melodic  at  times  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  some  of  the  faster  riffing  utilizes  some tremolo  picking  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  one  song  also  brings  in  acoustic guitars.

  Traitorr  plays  a  musical style  that  takes  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  mixes  them  together  with  a  touch  of  melodic  metal  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  social  unrest,  ritual  sacrifice,  science  fiction  and  apocalypse  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Traitorr  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Order  Unto  Chaos"  "Transmogrify"  and  "Nuclear  Blast  Radius".  8  out  of  10.

Whipstriker/Seven Inches Of Hell/Folter Records/2016 Compilation Album Review

  Whipstriker  are  a  band  from  Brazil  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal  with  some  elements  of  crust  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  compilation  album  "Seven  Inches  Of  Hell"  which  was  released  by  Folter  Records.

  A  very  dark and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  first  wave  style  black  metal  vocals  and  NWOBHM  style  guitar  leads  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  80's  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  compilation  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  elements  of  thrash  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  A  great  amount  of  the  faster  riffs  use  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  along  with  the  songs  also  utilizing  some  crust  and  d  beat  elements  at  times  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  later  tracks  also  bring  in  more  traces  of  speed  metal  and  as  the  compilation  progresses  they  bring in  a  cover  of  Venom's  "Stand  Up  And  Be  Counted"  and  later  tracks  start  displaying  more  rock'n'roll  influences  and  every  song  remains  true  to  a  very  heard  and  heavy  musical  direction.

  Whipstriker  plays  a  musical  style  throughout  this  compilation  that takes  first  wave  black  metal,  thrash,  speed,,  crust  punk  and  rock'n'roll  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  some  very  retro  yet  old  school  music,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  darkness,  violence  and blasphemous  themes.

  In  my opinion  this  is  very great  sounding  collection  from  Whipstriker,  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  thrash  and  crust  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Her  Hell  Of  Fire"  "Denied  Messiah"  "Worshippers  Of  Death"  and  "Ripping  Corpses  In  The  Way".  8  out  of  10.

Bang Your Heads For Gehennah/Blood Metal Gangfighters/Bestial invasion Records/2016 Tribure Album Review

  Gehennah  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  around  for  more  than  20  years  and  plays  a  retro  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  a  tribute  album to  them  called  "Bang  Your  heads  For  Gehennah-Blood  Metal  Gangfighters"  which  was  released  by  bestial  invasion  Records  and  we  will  review  the  songs  one  by  one.

  Moloch  Letalis  brings  us  "Bulldozer"  which  starts  out  with  some  glass  breaking  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  speed/thrash  metal  direction  along  with  some  first  wave  black  metal  style  vocals  and  the  song  also  brings  in  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  and  the  song  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  lead  and  bass  guitar  leads.

  Offence  brings  us  "Bang  Your  Heads  For  Satan"  which  starts  out  with  melodic  guitar  leads  before  going  into  a  heavier  first  wave  black  metal  direction  while  also  adding  in  death  metal  style  growling  which  is  also  different  from  the  original version  while  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  more  of  an  80's  metal  style.

  Riotor  brings  us  "Demolition  Team"  which  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  80's  influenced  extreme  metal  style  along with  some  elements  of  speed  and  thrash  metal  as  well  as  some  grim  black  metal  screams  that h ave  the  grimness  of  the  second  wave  while  the  music  is  more  rooted  in  the  first  wave  and  there  is  also  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  melodies.

  Ragehammer  brings  us  "Winter  War"  which  starts  out  with  a  heavy  guitar sound  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  and  after  awhile  black  metal screams  are  added  into the  music  and  the  songs  goes  for  an  old  school  80's  first  wave  style.

  Stillborn  brings  us  "Osculum  Obscenum"  which  starts  out  with distorted  amp  sounds  and  after  the  music  gets  heavier  along  with  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  which  they  also  mix  in  with  elements  of  thrash  and  first  wave  black  metal  as  well  as  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Axcutor  brings  us  "Piss  Off,  I'm  Drinking"  which  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  old  school  thrash  metal  style  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  80's  while t he  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  grim  black  metal style.

  Warfist  brings  us  "Six  Pack  Queen"  which  starts  out  with  drum  beats  and  a  very  retro  early  80's  thrash/black  metal  style  while  the  vocals  go  for  more  of  a  first  wave  style  and  the  song  also b rings  in  elements  of  speed  metal  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  sound  very  old  school.

  Hate  Them  All  brings  us  "Im  the  Wolf"  which  starts  out  with  a  very  old  school  style  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  which  gives  the  song  more  of  a  second  wave feeling  while t he  music  is  more  rooted  in  the  first  wave  style  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style.

  Paganfire  brings  us  "Hellstorm"  which  starts  out  with  drum  beats  along  with  some  old  school  style  guitar  leads  before  bringing  in  an  80's  style  speed/thrash  metal  style  as  well  as  adding  in  first  wave  style  black  metal  feelings  and  demonic  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times

  Excidium  brings  us  "Decibel  Rebel"  which  starts  out  with  distorted  amp  sounds  before  adding  in  an  old  school  speed  metal  style  and  all  of  the musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  while t he  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  first  wave  style  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  an  old  school  metal  fashion.

  Empheris  brings  us  "King  Of  the  Sidewalk"  which  starts  out  with  an  old  school  80's  metal/punk  style  as  well  as  some  demonic  growls  which  evolve  into  first  wave  black  metal style  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful.

  Whipstriker  closes  the  album  with  "We Love  Alcohol"  which  starts  out  with  drum  beats  and  bass  guitar  leads  before  adding  in  some  Motorhead  style  riffing  and  the  vocals  also  sound  very  aggressive  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Gehenna,  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Trom/Balmore/Masked Dead Records/2016 EP Re-issue Review

  Trom  where  a  band  from  Switzerland  that  played  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  goth  metal  and  deathrock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1993  ep  "Balmor"  which  was  released  by  Masked  Dead  Records.

  Clean  guitar  playing  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  start  off  the  ep  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  while  also  mixing  in  elements  of  industrial  metal.

  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  riffs  also  use  melodies  at  times  and  when  the  music speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  later  songs  bring  in  more  goth  and  deathrock  elements  along  with  a  touch  of  post  punk  and  every  track  sounds  different  from  each  other.

  Trom  played  a  musical  style  that  was  ahead  of  its  time  in  1993  taking  black  metal,  industrial,  goth  and  death  rock  and  mixing  them  together  to  create  something  very  original  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  alchemy,  death,  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Trom  are  a  very  great sounding  mixture of  black  metal,  goth  and  death  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you should  check  out this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nigra  Opera"  and  "Balmor".  8  out  of  10.

Liquid Graveyard Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hello, we’re Liquid Graveyard. We’ve about to release our latest album, the first one as a Supergroup, and will play some gigs to promote it fully.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
We play a mix of Death Metal, Grindcore and Thrash, with some Doomy elements as well as Black Metal, probably…It’s totally different to our previous albums in many aspects, but a very important one is that we’ve got Shane playing some awesome bass lines, and Nick with his unique drumming…the whole album is a blast, we’re very proud.

3.This is the first album to be released in 5 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?
We played in Stonehenge Metal Fest in Holland in 2013, where we met up with our mates Shane from Napalm Death and Nick from Lock Up, Brujeria etc.. we talked about doing an album together… one year later we had the album completely written and ready to be recorded which we did. The release has  taken a while due to personal circumstances (John started Cancer again in 2013 which has kept him very busy… both Shane and Nick are also very busy with their other bands…) but during that time we started to play together, first one show, then another, and another… and here we are.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
Same as it’s always been really. There are too many issues in the world, plenty to talk about and write about. We’re always been very political. I very much doubt we’ll ever write a love song!

5.Most of the band members are veterans with histories that go back more than 20 years, what is it that keeps motivate to still  write, create or perform music up to this day?
We’re musicians, we’re passionate about what we do and life has given us the chance to create music rather than to just “consume” music so to speak. So we consider ourselves lucky and we’re grateful of course.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
There are three that I particularly recall as really good ones, November to Dismember in Bucharest, Stonehenge in Holland, and Neurotic Deathfest in Holland.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
We will do shows to promote the album, as we always have.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the newer music by fans of extreme metal?
By the looks of it, it’s going really well. Let’s wait till the album is out!

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Oh plenty of things, shows, tours, new albums… many, many things..

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
I can’t say! We enjoy doing music, that’s for sure, so we will continue for as long as we can.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Cancer, Napalm Death, Brujeria, Lock-Up, Brutal Truth, Twilight Of The Gods, Vicious Rumours, Menace, Tryptikon, Mumakil and also Skinny Puppy, Black sabbath, Alice in Chains, Tool, S.U.P./Supuration, Zaraza (Canada), Aarni, Carnival In Coal, Antique (Greek doom band), My Dying Bride, Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega..

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
Gosh! There’s a lot: Politics, Science and Technology, History, especially Medieval, and literature.
