Vst/The Beast Manifesto/Concreto Records/2018 Full Length Review

  Vst  are  a  band  from  Mexico  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "The  Beast  Manifesto"  which  was  released  by  Concreto  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later  while  black  metal  screams  and  clean  vocals  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  some  keyboards  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  Spoken  word  parts  are  also  used  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody,  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  of  the  later  tracks  is  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  few  seconds  of  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard.

  Vst  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  with  epic  sounding  keyboards  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Chaos  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vst  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t hose  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Abyss"  "Ouroboros"  "Sathanael"  and  "Suicidal  God".  8  out  of  10.

Tenebras/Mora/Death Portal Studio/2018 Full Length Review

  Tenebras  are  an  international  duo  with  members  from  Mexico  and  Greece  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  with  some  elements  of  folk  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Mora"  which  was  released  by  Death  Portal  Studio.

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  and  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  folk  music  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording  while  female  vocals  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  blast  beats  being  utilized  when  the  music  speeds  up.

   The  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  black  metal  elements  while  the  folk  influences  are  also  added  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  slower  riffing  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  doom  metal  as  well  as  the  guitar  leads  being  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style.

  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  as  the  album  progresses  grim  screams,  tremolo  picking  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  a  later  track  also  introducing  stringed  instruments  into  the  music  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  being  instrumentals.

  Tenebras  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  blackened  death  metal  while  also  adding  in  some  folk  and  doom  metal  influences  at  times,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness,  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Tenebras  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  duo  with  touches  of  folk  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mora"  "Satanic  Enchantment"  "Lasmashtu"  and  "Chokani  (La  Llorna)".  8  out  of  10.

Evil/The Gate Of Hell/Nuclear War Now! Productions/2018 Demo Review

  Evil  are  a  band  from  Japan  that  plays  a  blackened  form of  speed/thrash  metal  with  a  touch  of  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  demo  "The  Gate  Of  Hell"  which  will  be  released  on  cassette  on  October  21st  by  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  demo  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier,  darker  and  melodic  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  old  school  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  an  80's  black  metal  style  along  with  the  music  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  death, speed  and  thrash  metal  elements  as  well  as  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  classic  Brazilian  and  Japanese  bands  as  well  as  capturing  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock,  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  they  close  the  demo  with  a  cover  of  Sarcofago's  "Desecration  of  The  Virgin".

  Evil  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  80's  era  of  black,  speed  and  thrash  metal  while  bringing  those  genres  more  up  to  date,  the  production  sounds  very  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  hell  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Hell  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  thrash/speed  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hell's  Evil  bells"  and  "Desecration  of  The  Virgin".  8  out  of  10.

  thisquietarmy  are  a  band  from  Montreal,  Quebec,  Canada  that  plays  a  mixture  of  experimental,  drone,  ambient,  post  rock,  shoegaze,  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their 2018  album  "The  Body  And  The  Earth"  which  will  be  released  on  October  12th  by  Consouling  Sounds.

  Ambient  style  synths  and  drones  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  bass  guitars  are  added  onto  the  recording  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  post  rock  elements  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  are  heavily  influenced  by  doom  metal.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  experimental  while  elements  of  black  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  all  of  the  music  being  instrumental  as  well  as  some  clean  playing  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  some  psychedelic,  krautrock  and  shoegaze  influences,  horned  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  all  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other.

  On  this  recording  thisquietarmy  takes  experimental,  drone,  ambient,  post  rock,  shoegaze, psychedelic,  black  and  doom  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  something  very  original  while  keeping  everything  instrumental  and  the  production  sounds  very  professional.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  thisquietarmy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  drone,  ambient,  post  rock,  shoegaze,  black  and  doom  metal ,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sixth  Mass"  and  "Algal  Bloom".  8  out  of  10.

  Thoren  are  a  band  from  Detroit,  Michigan  that  plays  an  instrumental  mixture  of  dissonant  black  metal  and  progressive  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Gwarth  I"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Drylands  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  dissonant  structures  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  technical  style  and  all  of  the  music  is  instrumental.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  progressive  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  the  tracks  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  mixing  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  one  track  also  adds  in  acoustic  guitars  and  avant  garde  elements.

  Thoren  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  dissonant  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  progressive  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  while  also  keeping  everything  instrumental  and  the  production  sounds  very  professional.

  In  my  opinion  Thoren  are  a  very  great  sounding  instrumental,  dissonant  and  progressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Agarwaen"  "Daleb  Dab"  and  "Tyranny".  8  out  of  10.

  Angrrsth  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  ep  "Znikad"  which  was  released  by  Godz  of  War  Productions.

  A  very  dark  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  as  well  as  the  vocals  bringing  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams and  death  metal  growls.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  vocals  are  also  done  in  an  understandable  shouting  style  at  times  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks a re  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Angrrsth  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  black  and  death  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Angrrsth  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Krew  i  Trans"  and  "Nad  Geown  Sznur".  8  out  of  10.

  Bestial  Devastator  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Until  Death  Occurs..."  which  was  released  by  Desecration  Of  Souls  Productions.

  Dark  and  melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  riffs  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  vocals  being  done  in  an  80's  German  style  as  well  as  the  music  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  first  wave  black  metal  tradition.

  Tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  second  wave  influences  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  guitar  leads  also  stick  to  an  old  school  tradition  and  as  the  album  progresses  they  also  bring  in  a  ritualistic  sounding  intro  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  on  the  following  tracks.

  Bestial  Devastator  plays  a  music  style  that  goes  back  to  their  early  80's  black  metal  and  German  thrash  metal  style,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Metal  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Bestial  Devastator  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t hose  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out t his  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Arisen  From  The  Crypts"  "...Of  Tyrants  And  Wolves"  and  "Until  Death  Occurs".  8  out  of  10.
