Nullentropy/Cyber Sulphur/Time Tombs Productions/2021 EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  France's  solo  project  Nullentropy  which  continues  the  progressive  style  of  blackened  death  metal  from  his  previous  release  and  the  ep  was  released  in  2021  by  Time  Tombs  Productions  and  called  "Cyber  Sulphur".

  A  sci-fi  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  synths  and  programmed  beats  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  some  touches  of  industrial.  The  music  also  adds  in  a  good  amount  of  progressive  structures  as  well  as  the  closing  track  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  story  of  a  simple  al's  rise  to  divinity.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nullentropy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Breastfeeding  Cybernetic  Entity"  and  "Non-Logical  Inner  Signals  To  Decode".  8  out  of  10.

Nattas/Domino/2020 EP Review

 

  Nattas  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  20220  ep  "Domino".

Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  heavy  yet  melodic  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  great  amount  of  back  up  shouts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  modern  elements.  Most  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  mid  tempo  direction  along  with  all  of  the  songs  also  keeping  everything  done  on  a  very  heavy  and  aggressive  style.

  Nattas  plays  a  style  of  blackened  thrash  metal  that  mixes  both  the  modern  and  old  school  era  together.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  evil,  satanism  and  human  behaviour  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nattas  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  thrash  metal b and  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Reclaim  The  Blood"  and  "In  The  Presence  of  A  Lesser  God".  8  out  of  10.

Nullentropy/The Singularity Recital/Time Tombs Productions/2021 CD Re-Issue Review

 

  Nullentropy  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  plays  a  progressive  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "The  Singularity"  which  was  re-issued  in  2021  by  Time  Tombs  Productions.

  A  sci-fi  and  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  riffs.

  Clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Keyboards  and  clean  playing  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  along  with  some  saxophones  and  ethnic  style  instruments  also  being  utilized  on  a  few  songs.  Tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  science  fiction  and  the  lost  of  humanity.

  In  my  opinion  Nullentropy  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  blackened  death  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "An  Electric  Sheep's  Dream"  "Man  Made  Machine  God"  and  "Mechanical  Uprising".  8  out  of  10.

Crypts Of Despair/All Light Swallowed/Transcending Obscurity Records/2021 CD Review

 

  Crypts  Of  Despair  are  a  band  from  Lithuania  that  plays  a  dissonant  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "all  Light  Swallowed"  which  was  released  by  Transcending  Obscurity  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Dark  sounding  melodies  and  dissonant  structures  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  deep  sounding  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  and  on  some  tracks  also  go  into  more  of  a  chaotic  direction.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  both  modern  and  old  school  influences  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  album.    

  Crypts  Of  Despair  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  dark,  dissonant  and  brutal  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Crypts  Of  Despair  are  a  very  great  sounding  dissonant  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Being-Erased"  "Condemned  To  Life"  and  "Excruciating  Weight".  8  out  of  10.

Noctambulist/The Barren Form/Willowtip Records/2021 CD Review

 

  Noctambulist  are  a  band  from  Denver,  Colorado  that  has  had  music  reviewed b efore  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  dissonant  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "The  Barren  Form"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Willowtip  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  brutal  musical  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts   while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Dissonant  structures  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Hedonihil  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "II-Symptomatic"  which  was  released  by  Inverse  Records.

  Acoustic  guitars  and  distorted  riffing  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  Tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  riffing  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Angry  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  also  being  utilized  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  and  most  of the  music  also  focuses  more  on  a  mid  tempo  direction  as  well  as  the  closing  song  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  folk  instruments.

  Hedeonihil  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  heavy  and  mostly  mid  tempo  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  negativity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Hedonihil  are  a  very  great sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shattered  Mindscapes"  and  "Sleeping  Closer  To  Death".  8  out  of  10.
