Lord Alfred/The Lord Cometh The 'Horde Goeth/Super Sargasso/2021 CD Review

 

  Lord  Alfred  are  a  solo  project  form  New  York  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black'n'roll,  thrash  metal,  punk,  rockabilly  and  blues  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  album  "The  Lord  COmeth  The  'Horde  Goeth"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Super  Sargasso.

  A  very  heavy  punk  influenced  sound   starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  first  wave  style  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  black'n'roll  elements.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  old  school  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  The  album  also  mixes  in  a  lot  of  rockabilly  influences  in  with  a  heavier  musical  style  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  an  influence  of  thrash  metal  at  times.  When  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  bass  leads  also  adding  in  touches  of  blues  rock  when  they  are utilized  as  well  as  one  of  the  tracks  also  being  an  instrumental  and  most  of  the  recording  also  sticks  to a   mid  tempo  direction.

  Lord  Alfred  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black'nroll,  thrash  metal,  punk,  rockabilly  and  blues  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  lo-fi  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Witchcraft,  Voodoo  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Lord  Alfred  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black'n'roll,  thrash  metal,  punk,  rockabilly  and  blues  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Witches"  "Hellfucked  Again"  and  "Nagging  Witch".  8  out  of  10.

Reveal!/Doppelherz/Sepulchral Voice/2021 CD Review

 

  Reveal!  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  with  some  elements  of  punk  and  noise  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Doppelherz"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Sepulchral  Voice.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  while  the  heavier  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  also  being  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  punk  and  noise  rock  elements.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  influences  of  death  and  thrash  metal,  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  of  the  later  tracks  is  also  an  instrumental  and  harsh  noises  are  also  utilized  towards  the  end

  Reveal!  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death,  thrash  metal,  punk  and  noise  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  something  very  original  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature,  life  and  death  themes.

Lucifer For President/Asylum/My Kingdom Music/2021 CD Review

 

  Lucifer  For  President  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black'n'roll,  thrash  metal,  and  horror  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Asylum"  which  was  released  by  My  Kingdom  Music.

  Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  horror  punk  direction  which  also  captures  the  heaviness  of  thrash  metal.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  clear  singing  and  shouts  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  elements  of  black'n'roll  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  also  adds  in  more  of  a  classic  rock  vibe  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  more  of  an  old  school  style.  Death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along with  some  evil  sounding  whispers  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  some  dark  sounding  melodies.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  along  with  the  songs  also  mixing  in  a  decent  amount  of  80's  influences  but  keeping  it  modern  at  the  same  time  as  well  as  the  band  also  bringing  in  some  CCCP  and  Misfits  covers,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  all  of  the  album  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian,  Occultism,  Suicide,  Sex,  Drugs  and  Rock'N'Roll  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  Lucifer  For  President  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black'n'roll,  thrash  metal  and  horror  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Satan  Saves"  "I've  Got  Two  Friends"  "Exorcism"  and  "The  Kiss  Of  the  Witch/Planet  Lucifer".  8  out  of  10.

In Vacuo/Urbain Noir/NGC Prod/2020 CD Review

 

  In  Vacuo  are  a  duo  from  Hungary  that  plays  a  mixture  of  post  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Urbain  Noir"  which  was  released  by  NGC  Prod.

  Dark  yet  melodic  guitar  leads  and  solos  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  faster  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  music  also  adding  a  decent  amount  of  post  metal  touches  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  and  as  the  recording  progresses  more  experimental  elements  can  also  be  heard  along  with a  later  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  semi  melodic  vocals.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Inner  Suffering  and  Transcendental  Thoughts  mixed  in  with  some  Freudian  Psychology.

  In  my  opinion  In  Vacuo  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  post  black  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Timetraveller"  "Obscure  Mind"  "Empty  Room"  and  "Up  And  Down".  8  out  of  10.

Barus/Fanges/Aesthetic Death/Breathe Plastic/2021 EP Review

 

  France's  Barus  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  progressive  form  of  blackened  death  metal  with  some  elements  of  doom  and  post  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "Fanges"  which  will  be  released  in  December  as  a  joint  effort  between  Aesthetic  Death  and  Breathe Plastic.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length. Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  the  music  also  has  its  repetitive  and  atmospheric  moments.

  When  clean  playing  is  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  while  spoken  word  parts  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  also  be  added  in  at  times  as  well  as  the  music  also  adding  in  some  touches  of  post  metal  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Barus  takes  atmospheric  black,  doom,  death,  post  and  prog  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  and  dark  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  dark  and  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Barus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  progressive  blackened  death  metal  with  some  touches  of  doom  and  post  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Fanges".  8  out  of  10.

  Decay  are  a  band  from  Romania  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal  with  some  psychedelic  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "THORnMENThORn"  which  was  released  by  Loud  Rage  Music.

  A  synth  orientated  intro  along  with  the  sounds  of  fire  burning  and  bells  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style.

  Whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  showing  an  influence  of  thrash  metal  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats,  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  more  psychedelic  touches  can  also  be  heard  and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  life  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Decay  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal  with  some  psychedelic  touches,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "To  Survive  The  Time"  "Concentrated  Incarnation  Of  Brutal  Aggression"  and  "Eat  Your  Rights".  8  out  of  10.

Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  doom  metal  direction  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

 

Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  melodic  vocals  also  can  be  heard  at  times.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  A  couple  of  brief  ritualistic  interludes  can  be  heard  before  a  couple  of  songs  which  also  adds  in  some  tribal  style  percussion  as  well  as  some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  aquatic  nightmare  gods  which  are  also  inspired  by  the  writings  of  H.P  Lovecraft.
