Crucifier/Say Your Prayers/Iron Bonehead Productions/2022 EP Review

 

  Crucifier  are  a  band  from  Pennsylvania  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Say  Your  Prayers"  which  was  released  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  and  ritualistic  whispers  a  few  seconds  while  spoken  word  samples  can  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  and  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  era  while t he  solos  and  leads  also  remain  very  true  to  an  old  school  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  also  being  added  into  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  ep  also  closes  with  a  cover  of  Carnivore's  "Jesus  Hitler".

  Crucifier  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  goes  back  to  the  mid  80's  and  early  90's  era  of  the  genre,  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anti  Christianity,  Blasphemy  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Crucifier  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUD E "My  Soul  To  Take"  and  "Chime  of  the  Goat's  Head  Bell".  8  out  of  10.

Crisis Benoit/El Culto De La Muerte/Slaughterhouse Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Crisis  Benoit  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal,  grindcore  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "El  Culto  De  Le  Muerte"  which  was  released  by  Slaughterhouse  Records.

  A  very  heavy  yet  aggressive  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grindcore  elements.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  along  with  the  vocals  being  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  short  in  length  as  well  as  some  tremolo  pick8ing  also  being  added  into  the  faster  riffing  at  times,  horror  movie  and  wrestling  samples  can  also be  heard  briefly  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Crisis  Benoit  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  metal,  grindcore  and  punk  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror  and  wrestling  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Crisis  Benoit  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  metal,  grindcore  and  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Macabre  Coffin  Cremation"  "Tornado  Of  Thousand  Broken  Light  Tubes"  "The  Eternal  March  Of  The  Dead"  and  "Back  From  the  Dead".  8  out  of  10.

Deocculted/An Eye For The Occulted Sun(Remix)/2022 EP Review

 

  Deocculted  are  a  band  from  Austin,  Texas  that  plays  a  slamming  form   of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "An  Eye  For  The  Occulted  Sun"  which  is  also  a  re-mixed  version  of  their  2019  ep  of  the  same  name.

  A  very  heavy,  brutal  and  slamming  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  the  guitar  riffing.  at  times.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  east  coast  style.  At  times  the  vocals  also  get  very  guttural  sounding  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  adding  in  a  technical  yet  melodic  touch  when  they  are  utilized  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  synths  can  clean  playing

  Deocculted  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  takes  the  brutality  of  the  east  coast  slam  style  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Deocculted  are  a  very  great  sounding  brutal  and  slamming  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ectoplasm"  and  "Siren's  Song".  8  out  of  10.

Mustasuo/Hiljaisuus/Off Records/Suspected Of Arson Records2022 Full Length Review

 

  Mustasuo  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  blackened  mixture  of  crust,  punk  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Hiljaisuus"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  wffort  between  Off  and  Suspected  Of  Arson  Records.

  Distorted  amp  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  crust  punk  direction  which  also  utilized  a  great  amount  of  d  beats.  Vocals a re mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  scrams  while  back  up  shouts  and  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  are  also  added  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are utilized  they  also  bring  in  more  of  an  80's  crust  punk  style  while  some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  grindcore.  Elements  of  hardcore  can  also  be  heard  in  the  mid  tempo sections  of  the  songs  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  recording,  a  great  portion  of  the  songs  are  also  very  short  in length  and  a  later  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  dark  and  angry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mustasuo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  crust  punk  and  hardcore,   you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Aikamme  on  loppumassa"  "Temppelli"  "Tikitsen  sairaat  soluni"  and  "Ei  en".  8  out  of  10.

Anachronistic/700 and 19 Ways of Decay/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Anarchronistic  are  an  international  duo  with  members  from  Poland  and  South  Korea  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  album  "700  and  19  Ways  Of  Decay".

  A  war  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  black  metal  style  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  raw  energy  of  punk  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  hardcore  style  shouts.

  Elements  of  death  metal  van  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  a  small  amount  of  melody  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Anarchronistic  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  metal  and  hardcore  punk  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  themes.

  Veneno  are  a  band  form  Argentina  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  demo  "Camino  De  Espinas"  which  was  released  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  Elements  of  hardcore  punk  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  short  in  length  as  well  as  some  d  beats  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  a  hardcore  punk  style  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  80's  influences  with  a  more  modern  day  aggression,  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  mid  tempo  direction  and  the  demo  always  remains  true  to  a  heavier  style.

  Apostasy  are  a  band  from  Chile  that  plays  a  blackened  mixture  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  20220  ep  "The  Unknown  Path"  which  was  re-issued  in  2022  by  Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

  A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  80's  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  also  bringing  in  elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal.  Blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  influences  from  the  first  wave  era  of  the  genre.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  synths  in  the  background  briefly  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and fast  parts,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  very  true  to  an  old  school  extreme  metal  direction  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.
