Devilpriest/In Repugnant Adoration/Odium Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

 Devilpriest  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  satanic  and  occult  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "In  Repugnant  Adoration"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Odium  Records.

  Ritualistic  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  along  with  the  vocals  being  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  being  more  brutal  and  modern  than  the  previous  release  and  the  album  closes  with  a  cover  of  Black  Crucifixion's  "Flowing  Downwards"..

  On  this  recording  Devilpriest  takes  their  blackened  style  of  death  metal  into  more  of  a  brutal  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Left  hand  Path  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Devilpriest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  satanic  and  occult  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  R#ECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Black  Milk  Of  Lilith"  "The  Eye  Of  Set"  and  "Flowing  Downwards".  8  out  of  10.

Cabal/Magno Interitus/Nuclear Blast Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Cabal  are  a  band  from  Denmark  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  deathcore  with  some  elements  of  djent  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Magno  Interitus"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Nuclear  Blast  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  some  synths  which  also  return  on  later  tracks  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  djent  elements  and  a lot  of  brutal  blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  Touches  of  hardcore  and  deathcore  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  in  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  album.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  clear  vocals  into  the  music,  spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  briefly.

  Cabal  plays  a  musical  style   that takes  black,  death  metal,  deathcore  and  djent  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  personal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Cabal  are  a  very  decent  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  metal,  deathcore  and  djent  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "If  I  Hang,  Let  me  Swing"  "Existence  Ensnared"  "Violent  Ends"  and  "Plague  Bringer".  7  out  of  10.

Fifth Ring/Masochist/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Fifth  Ring  are  an  international  band  with  members  from Taiwan  and  the  United  States  that  plays  a  blackened  from  of  deathcore  with  some  elements  of  progressive  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Masochist".

  A  very  powerful  sounding  bass  guitar  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavier  and  brutal  guitar  riffing  a  few  seconds  later.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent amount  of  deathcore  elements  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  lot  of  brutal  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  A  small  amount  of  melody  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  also  gets  very  progressive  sounding  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  vocals  also  having  their  guttural  moments  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  keyboards.

 Wrestling  samples  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  one  track  also  introduces  clear  vocals  into  the  music  and  whispers  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  a  coup-le  of  songs  and  as  the  recording  progresses.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  violence  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  Fifth  Ring  are  a  very  great  sounding  deathcore  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ten  Horns"  "Head  On  A  Pike"  "Maggot  King"  and  "Lurking  In  The  Open  Wound".  8  out  of  10.

Onslaught Kommand/Demo I/Godz Ov War Productions/2022 Demo Review

 

  Onslaught  Kommand  are  a  band  from  Chile  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  demo  which  was  released  by  Godz  Ov  War  Productions.

  Blast  beats  and  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  start  off  the  demo  while  also  bringing  in  elements  of  goregrind.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  o  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  cavernous  yet  guttural  sounding  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  music  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  80's  to  early  90's  era.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,   mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  tracks  are  also very  short  in  length  along  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  also  being  added  into  the  guitar  riffs  at  times  as  well  as  the  faster  riffing  also  adding  in a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  the  music  always  remains  very  heavy.

  Onslaught  Kommand  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  metal  and  grindcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  gore,  perversions  and  explicit  violence  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Onslaught  Koomand  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Inside  the  Mutilator's  Bunker"  and  "Becoming  A  Gut  Pie".  8 out  of  10.

  Trup  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  noisecore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Nie"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Godz  ov  War  Productions.

  Blast  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that  also  add  in  the  anger  of  noise/grind  style  screaming.  When  guitar  riffs  are  introduced  into  the  music  they  also  take  the  album  into  more  of  a  darker  and  heavier  direction  while  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

Never Reborn/What Darkness Brings/2020 EP Review

 

  Never  Reborn  are  a  band  from  Tucson,  Arizona  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  with  some  touches  of  classic  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "What  Darkness  Brings".

  Drum b eats  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  heavier  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  some  melody  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  at  times.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  that  is  very  close  to  traditional  metal  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  song  also  being  a  brief  instrumental  and  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the recording  an d  the  songs  also  bring  a  modern  day  heaviness  to  an  80's  style.

  Never  Reborn  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  mixes  it  in  with  the  melody  of  classic  heavy  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  anti  religion  themes.

Nattmaran/Terror Cross/Rise Of The Nightmare Terror/Wise Blood Records/2022 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Sweden/Indonesia's  Nattmaran  and  Finland's  Terror  Cross  called  "Rise  Of  The  Nightmare  Terror" which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Wise  Blood  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Nattmaran  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy,  melodic  and  old  school  speed  metal  style  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   decent amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  bring  in a  mixture  of  power/thrash  style  singing,  black  metal  screams  and  death  emtal  growls  and  most  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in t he  80's  era.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style  along  with  the music  also  capturing  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  at  times.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  there  side  of  the  split  closes  with  a  cover  of  Bathory's  "Conspiracy  With  Satan".  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while t he  lyrics  cover  serial  killers  and  burning  witches.

  In  my  opinion  Nattmaran  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this b and.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Erupting  In  Violence"  and  "Punished  by  Death".

  Next  up  is  Terror  Cross  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash  metal  and  punk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  both  the  first  and  second  wave  era's  of  the  genre  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  their  side  of  the  split  closes  with  a  cover  of  Manowar's  "Gloves  Of  Metal".  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  sex,  murder  and  metal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Terror  Cross  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  thrash  metal  and  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fornication  And  Murder"  and  "Sexual".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk.  8  out  of  10.
