Atonement/Sadistic Invaders/Dying Victims Productions/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Atonement  are  a  band  from  Sweden t hat  plays  a  blackened  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Sadistic  invaders"  which  was  released  by  Dying  Victims  Productions.

  Horror  movie  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  thrash  metal  direction.  Blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  vocals  are mostly  black  metal  screams  while t he  music  is  also  ve5ry  heavily  influenced  by  the  first  wave  era  of  the  genre,

  A  lot  of  the  riffing  also  mixes  in  elements  of  the  90's  era  of  death  metal  while  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  fast  riffs.   When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  extreme  metal  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  

  Attonement  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to t he  80's  era  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Evil,  Murder  and  Black  Magick  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Atonement  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Await  The  Command"  "Evil  Disaster"  "Unholy  Sorcery"  and  "Evil  Minds".  8 out  of  10.

The Prophecy23/Live At Summer Breeze/Massacre Records/2023 Live Album Review

 

  Germany's  The  Prophecy23  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for a   mixture  of  black,  death,  thrash  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  live 2023  album  "Live  At  Summer  Breeze"  which  was  released  by  Massacre  Records.

  Live  audience  reaction  starts  off t he  album  along  with  a  live  introduction  to  the  band  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  riffing  is  heavily  rooted  in  thrash  metal.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  some  of  the  vocals  also  add  in  more  of  a  traditional  thrash  metal  approach.  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  remaining  true  to  an  old  school  direction  and  some  of t he  riffs  also  capture  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  songs  also  add  in  a  god  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  as  well a s  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  back  up  gang  shouts,  melodic  singing  can  also b e  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  metal,  partying,  society,  games  and  movies.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  prophecty23  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death,  thrash  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  live  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  (INCLUDE  "Brutal  Thrash  Maniacs"  "Home  is  Where  You  Shred"  "Mammon"  and  "I  Wish  i  Can  Skate".  8 out  of  10.

  Knife  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of b lack,  thrash  ,speed  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Heaven  Into  Dust"  which  will b e  released  on  August  25th  by  Napalm  Records.

  Horror  movie  style  keyboards  start  off  the  album  while  whispers  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  can  also b e  heard  in  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  blackened  metal  screams.

  A  lot  of  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  first  wave  touches  while  the  album  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  but  mixed  with  a  more  modern  sound.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also b ringing  in  more  of  a  melodic  yet  old  school  style.

  All  of t he  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  back  up  shouts.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  the  music  also  capturing  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  at  times,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  some  songs  add  in  touches  of  hard  rock  and  traditional  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  esoteric  and  mythological  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording f rom  Knife  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  thrash,  speed  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hawks  Of  Hades"  "Iron  Spectre"  "Black  oath  And  Spells"  and  "No  Gods  In  The  Dark".  8 out  of  10.

Acausal Intrusion/Panpsychism/I, Voidhanger Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Acausal  Intrusion  are  a  duo  from  the  United  States  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  an  atmospheric  and  technical  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  emtal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Pansychism"  which  will b e  released  in  September  by  I,  Voidhanger  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  and  field  recordings  start  off  the  album  while  one  song  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  album  which  also  returns  on  later  songs  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  deep  and  cavernous  death  metal  growls.  

  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in t he  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  and  technical  moments.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  are  also  utilized  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length   along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  brutal  sounding  at  times  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  mixing  in  a  small  amount  of  black  metal  screams,  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing  and  the  album  closes  with  an  avant  garde  orientated  piano  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Chaos,  Occultism,  Cosmic  Horror  and  Lovecraftian  themes..

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Acausal  Intrusion  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  atmospheric  and  technical  black,  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Encoded  Hexagrams"  "The  Inward  Seperation"  and  "Molecular  Entanglement".  8 out  of  10.

  Canada's  Eternal  Drak  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  ep  "Interdimensional  Wat  of  Satan"  which  was  released  by  Firstwave  Studio.

  A  very  heavy  thrash  metal  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Vocals  are  done  in  a  more  first  wave  black  emtal  style  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  modern  touches  can  also  be  heard  at  times.   Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  synths  and  clean  vocals  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track

  On  this  recording  Eternal  Drak  focuses  more  on  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  which  is  more  aggressive  than  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism a nd  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Eternal  Drak  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Ambition  of  Satan"  and  Interdimensional  War".  8  out  of  10.
