Sterbhaus/Krampusnacht/Killhead/2019 EP Review

  Sterbhaus  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Krampusnacht"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Killhead.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Elements  of  thrash  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  first  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  done  in  a  grim  black  metal  style.

  Death  metal  growls  are  also  brought  into  some  parts  of  the  songs  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Influences  of  classical  music  can  also  be  heard  being  mixed  in  with  the  more  extreme  metal  side  briefly  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  old  school  metal  style,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Santa  Claus's  Alpine  opposite  Krampus  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sterbhaus  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Christmas  With  The  Devil".  8  out  of  10.

Tartarus Horde/Self Titled/2019 Full Length Review

  Tartarus  Horde  are  a  band  form  Pennsylvania  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  with  some  elements  of  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  and  self  released  2019  album.

  A  very  ritualistic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  demonic  sounding  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  brutal  direction.  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  as  well  as  mixing  in  some  elements  of  grindcore.   Black  metal  screams  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very melodic  yet  technical  style.

  Througohut  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  shamanistic  flutes  can  be  heard  on  an  instrumental  before  returning  back  to  a  brutal  direction  and  the  closing  track  is  very  long  and epic  in  length  and  also  introduces  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  occultism  and  sword  and sorcery  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Tartarus  Horde  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  with  some  elements  of  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Incantations  Of  Dissident  Tongues"  "Possession  Of  Mythic  Armaments"  and  "Ghastly  Occurrences  Within  The  Obsidian  Fortress".  8  out  of  10.

Alfahanne/Atomvinter/Indie Recordings/2019 CD Review

  Sweden's  Alfahanne  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  mixture  of  black  metal,  punk,  goth  and  classic  rock  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Atomvinter"  which  was  released  by  Indie  Recordings.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  melodic  sounding  goth  rock  guitar  leads  onto  the  recording.  The  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  an  aggressive  screaming  and  shouting  style  while  black  metal  screams  are  also utilized  at  times.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  tragic  sounding  keyboards  onto  the  album  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  raw  aggression  of  punk  rock  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  briefly.  When  acoustic  guitars  are  added  onto  the  album  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  70's  classic  rock  feeling  but  mixed  in  with  a  more  modern  sound  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Swedish  and  English  and  cover  dark  and  apocalyptic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Alfahanne  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  punk,  goth  and  classic  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Atomvinter"  "A  Place  To  Call  Home  (Arla  Boggie)"  "The  Heavy  Burden"  and  "En  Tight  Knut".  8  out  of  10.

Diabolic Night/Beyond The Realm/High Roller Records/2019 CD Review

  Diabolic Night  are  a  duo  from  Germany  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Beyond  The  Realm"  which  was  released  by  High  Roller  Records.

  Thunderstorms  start  off  the  album  before  introducing  some  dark  and  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  onto  the  recording.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  riffs  also  mixing  in  elements  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  mostly  done  in  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  along  with  some  90's  style  screams  also  being  utilized  at  times.  While  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  it  still  captures  a  modern  day  aggression  as  well  as  the  music  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  NWOBHM  influences  and  the  riffs  also  utilize  a  lot  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  One  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount of  atmospheric  sounds  as  well  as  one  of  the  songs  being  an  instrumental  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  classical  music  sounds  can  be  heard  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction,  classical  guitars  are  also  used  briefly  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Ritual  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Diabolic  Night  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  and  speed  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sovereign  Of  Doom"  "Odyssey"  and  "Descension  Into  Dying  Spheres".  8  out  of  10.

  Hellixxir  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "The  Black  Fortress"  which  was  released  by  Music  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  blackened  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  riffing  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  thrash  metal  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

   When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  a  few  tracks also  adding  in  a  small  amount  spoken  word  parts.

  Acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  a  death/thrash  style  at  times.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tremolo  picking  also  being  utilized  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing,  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  chanting  vocals  and  they  also  bring  in  an  instrumental  as  the  album  progresses.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

Sacrifizer/La Mort Triomphante/Dying Victims Productions/2019 EP Review

  Sacrifizer  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "La  Mort  Triomphante"  which  was  released  by  Dying  Victims  Productions  which  also  contains  bonus  tracks  that  where  not  present  on  the  original  version.

  Fire  burning  and  acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  thrash  metal  influenced  direction  while  the  vocals  are  in  between  first  wave  black  metal  and  early  Destruction  style  screams.  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  but  still  aggressive  enough  for  the  modern  era.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  remaining  very  true  to  an  old  school  extreme  metal  style.

  The  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  speed  metal  influences  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  but  keeping  the  main  focus  on  the  faster  and  aggressive  side,  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  closing  bonus  track.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  horror  and  darkness  themes.

  Merzotna  Potvora  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Suca  maty"  which  was  released  by  Duplicate  Records.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  keyboards  and  shamanistic  style  percussion  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

    When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them. Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal screams  while  the  music  also  mixes  in a   great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  and  90's  but  modern  at  the  same  time.


  The  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  sounds  of  war  are  added  onto  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Ukrainian  and  cover  folklore  from  their  own  culture  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Merzontna  Potvora  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pesyholovci"  and  "Zmyty  vohnem".  8  out  of  10.
