Lucifericon/The Warlock of Da'ath/Invictus Productions/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Lucifericon  are  a  band  from  the  Netherlands  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "The  Warlock  of  Da'ath"  which  will b e  released  in  November b y  Invictus  Productions.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.

 Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams.  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Elements  of  death  metal  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  era  of  the  previously  mentioned  genre  as  well  having  their melodic  moments.

  The  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  show  an  influence  of  doom  metal, synths  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  utilized  on  a  couple  of  tracks  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also be  heard. The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Left  Hand  Path  themes

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Lucifericon  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Qliphotic  Trance"  "Sigillum  Azoetia"  The  Map  Of  Possibility"  and  "The  Warlock  of  Da'ath".  8  out  of  10.

Ryth/Deceptor Creator/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Ryth  are  a  band  from  Bahrain  that  plays  a  very  technical,  progressive  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Deceptor  Creator"  which  will  be  released  in  December.

  A  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  progressive  and  technical  sounding  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  in  more  of  an  old  school  death  metal  style  while  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  elements.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  lot  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  some  clean  playing  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  the  album  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  clear  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Ryth  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  brutal,  technical  and  progressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  philosophical  and  mythological  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ryth  are  a  very  great  sounding  technical  and  progressive  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Auto-Autonomous"  "Spiral  Flood"  and  "The  Rise  Of  Erebus".  8  out  of  10.

Fifth Ring Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

        (Chris) It all started years ago when 3 young golden gods decided to bless the world with their tasty jams. The world was not ready. “You suck!” they screamed. “One string solos!” they bellowed. We bided our time and grew within the caverns of my moms basement until we became the insatiable abomination that is Fifth Ring. 
    (Zach) It’s like sex with a rhino, but the rhinos not really into it, ya know?

2.So far this year you have released an ep and a full length, musically how do they both differ from each other?

    (Chris) Dawn was more of an experiment, we were kind of just throwing ideas back and forth but the writing process was very similar for both. Recording Dawn taught us a lot about the recording process and I think Masochist took those ideas and doubled down on them. I think we just tried to make it heavier, darker, prettier, groovier etc.

    (Zach) what he said.

3.Most of the band members where also a part of 'Cthulu', what was the cause of splitting up the band and forming a new one and also did you have an interest in the writings of H.P Lovecraft back in those days?

        (Chris) We were all kids then (like 17 or so) and it was easy when we had no real responsibility but as time went on, life started taking priority in our lives. We read some of the Cthulhu mythos but honestly the lyrics had little to nothing to do with Cthulhu, we just thought it was a badass name for a band and we went with it. We actually had a short-lived project called Golgothan after Cthulhu. It was basically the same music but I think it was us trying to keep the band alive. But fast forward to now, we’ve figured out a system that allows us to set aside personal time to write music, the process is much more deliberate now.

    (Zach) Chris stole my favorite Thomas the tank engine train (James the red engine) and when he returned it it smelled like shit. It took a lot for me to forgive him for that.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

        (Chris) We’ve taken a similar approach to the lyrics with Masochist so it kind of varies. We would usually name the song based on the feelings it gave us, and made lyrics based off that. For example, The Snake reminds us of slithering, serpentine type movements. Zach took that and interpreted those ideas into his own lyrics. Very much back and forth ideas. Then you have songs like Lurking that have a more serious tone. But regardless the lyrics are still written to “flow” with the song. If it sounds good, we are gonna keep it. If not we make something else.

    (Zach) ALOT OF ANIMAL MOLESTATION!

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Fifth Ring''?

        (Chris) The “Fifth Ring” means the “void” and comes from The Book of Five Rings, written by Miyamoto Musashi. It basically describes the flow state that we have all experienced in some way, shape or form. It means avoiding over analyzing things and simplifying them to its core. If you’ve ever played a game or sport and felt like you were in the zone, that’s exactly it.

    (Zach) Don’t know, some nerd shit I’d assume.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

        (Chris) I made it with my bare hands i worked hard, slaved over a hot stove to cook it up, eat up.

        (Zach) No you fucking didn’t you phony.

7.The band members live in the United States and Taiwan, what impact does that have on the musical style that you play?

        (Chris) I think it allow us to isolate our writing when necessary and share with the other members when needed. What i mean is we can write our individual parts without distractions, and share them, receive feedback and mold it from there. Its like our parts are unique to each member and from there they are influenced/influencing other writing processes.

    (Zach) I moved away because Chris kept harassing me for my DVD collection of Thomas the Tank Engine season 6 (The best season).

8.Currently the band is unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

        (Chris) Not really but we’re not against it

        (Zach) Yes really!

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal and death core?

    (Chris) Every time i leave my house i have oceans of women swooning at my feet begging me to help play just 1 riff for them. It’s a sacrifice one of us has to make.

    (Zach) There he goes talking about the third graders at the playground again.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

 

    (Chris)We have no plans of stopping so I think we’re just gonna keep pushing and see what crazy stuff we can make, I think we are gonna focus on what sets us apart and double down on that.

    (Zach) I don’t  know…..Only Fans?

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

        (Chris) Funny, we never stopped listening to metal but i know collectively we all listen to much more than that. I know zach has always been influenced by Gorillaz. Big influences for me would include Suicide Boys and Shawn James but we’re also influenced a lot by video games, movies etc. nowadays I listen to a lot of different music but i think Chelsea Grin is making the best deathcore currently.

     (Zach) Metallica.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

        (Chris) Thank you for the time, and I appreciate getting to answer some personal questions.

    (Zach) One time Chris shoved his hand into my Jizz sock and smelled his finger for a week claiming it smelled like strawberries.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  U.S.A's  wXdXw  and  Absolute  Fucking  Bastard  called  "fig.  i  |  fig.  ii"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Syrup  Moose  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Absolute  Fucking  Bastard  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  hardcore  punk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  spoken  word  samples  before  going  into  a  very  fast and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  some  aggressive  hardcore  style  shouting  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  punk  elements  and  both  of  their  tracks  are  also  very  short  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  angry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Absolute  Fucking  Bastard  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of b lack  metal  and  hardcore  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Seancer".

  Next  up  is  wXdXw  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  hardcore  punk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  brutal  style  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostyl  angry  sounding  hardcore  punk  style  shouts  and  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  elements  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  short  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  angry  themes.

  In  my  opinion  wXdXw  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal  and  hardcore  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Dark  Times".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  metal  and  hardcore  punk.  8  out  of  10.

  The  Antichrist  Imperium  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  progressive  and  vant  garde  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Volume  III:  Satan  In  All  His  Original  Glory"  which  was  released  by  Apocalyptic  Witchcraft.

  Avant  garde  style  pianos  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  When  clean  playing  is  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  while  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  Vocals  are a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Sirrush/Molon Labe/Non Serviam Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Sirrush  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Molon  Labe"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Non  Serviam  Records.

  A  very  epic  war  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  synths  before  going  into a   heavier  direction.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats.

  Tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  being  utilized  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  in  a  more  old  school  orientated  style.

  Synths  also  make  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  introducing  clean  playing  into the  music,  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  closing  song  is  a  Mediterranean style  acoustic  guitar  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  The  Ancient  Battles  Of  Greece  and  Greek  Mythology.

  In  my  opinion  Sirrush  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Deimos"  "Molon  Labe"  and  "The  Last  Glorious  Echo".  8/5  out  of  10.

Hiss From The Moat/The Way Out Of Hell/Distortion Music Group/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Italy's  Hiss  From  The  Moat  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  brutal  style  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "The  Way  Out  Of  Hell"  which  was  released  by  Distortion  Music  Group.

 A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  at  times.

  Tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  of  the  mid  tempo  sections  also  adding  in  touches  of  a  more mainstream  metal  style  as  well  as  some  songs  also  adding  in  some  aggressive  shouts  and  the  whole  album  sticks  to  a  very  heavy  and  brutal  direction,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  On  this  recording  Hiss  From  The  Moat  takes  the  blackened  style  of  death  metal  into  more  of  a  brutal  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anti  Christianity,  Death  and  hatred  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Hiss  From  The  Moat  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Way  Out  Of  Hell"  "Generation  Of  Cowardice"  "All  I  Have"  and  "The  Magnificent  Vision".  8  out  of  10.
