Thou Shalt Not/Sanctuary Of The Vile/CDN Records/2022 EP Review

Thou  Shalt  Not  are  a  band  from  Twinsburg,  Ohio  that  plays  a  satanic  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Sanctuary  Of  The  Vile"  which  was  released  by  CDN  Records.

A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  blackened  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  tracks.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences.  Tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  along  with  some  touches  of  doom/death  metal  also  being  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

Thou  Shalt  Not  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  early  90's  era  of  black  and  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

In  my  opinion  Thou  Shalt  Not  are  a  very  great  sounding  satanic  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Witches  Among  Us"  and  "Swine  You  Are".  8  out  of  10.

A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  lot  of  melody.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  punk  and  hardcore  elements.  Touches  of  black'n'roll  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  angry  sounding  shouts  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Spill  Your  Guts  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black'n'roll,  punk  and  hardcore  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  real  life  themes.

Desolate Shrine/Fires Of The Dying World/Dark Descent Records/2022 CD Review

Finland's  Desolate  Shrine  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  blackened  mixture  of  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Fires  Of  The  Dying  World"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

Classical  guitars  and  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording.  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  good  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  songs  also  add  in a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  album  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  classical  guitars  and  synths  also  returning  on  a  lot  of  the  later  songs.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  nihilism,  negativity  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Desolate  Shrine  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Dying  World"  and  "The  Furnace  of  Hope".  8  out  of  10.

H Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

The project started back in 2015, at this time I had just released my first full length for Ergot and I was very active about making new stuff and discovering new sounds. I used to meet together with C. listening to music, discussing about the BM scene, sharing experiences and old memories. ‘Once he figured out that he had some cool guitar riffs that were gathering dust he proposed to me to start a collaboration in order to make a new record at the best of our possibilities.

2.Recently you have released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

C. already had clear ideas through which I got inspired to build up my own riffs adding some arpeggios and solos and then we mixed everything together. Talking about “musical style” I think that you can find a lots of elements from Death, Heavy and Black Metal.

3.According to the Facebook page the band worked on this album for a few years before releasing it, can you tell us a little bit more about the time and effort you put into this recording?

The musical composition did not take more than few months to have it on a demo version. We were recording time after time at my home studio directly to the DAW. After the demo was completed, we have spent a lot of time working on the visual aspect of the album while we were looking to find some good sessionist to join on the bass and on the drums.

We were able to re-record everything in the studio just in 2019. A lot of effort has been involved in this work, but step by step we reached out our target.

4.A lot of the lyrics on the new album cover 'The Book of Revelation', can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this biblical text?

I find a big parallelism between the biblical texts and our modern society; I think that the theology of Revelation is very much contrary to the teaching of Jesus in the gospels. It promises revenge on the enemies of the Christians with death, destruction and holy punishment, whereas the teaching of Jesus was to love one’s enemies and do good to those who persecute you. That’s just to say that we have found a good scenario in order to express our frustration through the strings, a bit provocative too.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'H'?

“H” is a graphic symbol and it was inspired by C. If you prefer a more fantastical meaning, “H” is the representation of two towers linked by a bridge.

We leave to the listener the purpose to find what will be the meaning for “H” to him, as for the words could be referred such both as Hell or Heaven...

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The artwork was commissioned to the italian artist Lucia D'Asta. We met her through a friend and we were very excited for her great talent. Back in the time we were already working on digital graphics drafts and we gave them to her to find her inspiration in the making of the hand painting.

The front cover represents the evil side of the concept while the back represents the side of the sublime.

7.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

Not at the moment, unfortunately the current world situation and this uncertain future are not helping us and now we need to focus on other major things.

8.The album was released on 'Sounds Of Hell'. how did you get in contact with this label?

When everything was almost done, we've started to promote our work through mail and private streaming, we wanted to find a label which really believe in our work.

We get in contact with Sounds Of Hell while we were scouting through the newest extreme metal labels in Europe through metal-archives and after some mails we found them really interested, collaborative and professional so It was clear for us to join them.

9.on a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

We still don’t know about that but I think that we will have this kind of feedback in the years to come. We are humble people not really interested in the individual success and that’s why we unveil our faces too.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

As we said before this uncertain situation that overcomes all the world deny us from making any future plan.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Although we are on the opinion that not always what you like to listen has to be involved in what you like to play, both of us has very different tastes regarding music, especially if you want to go deep through all subgenres. That’s why we avoid to mention any artists but what I can proudly say is that a lot of cool releases are coming also nowadays and even the underground scene has a lot of movement due to collectors.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We would like to thank you for your interest, we extremely believe in an active metalhead community all over the world capable to overstep boundaries and nationalities, we're sharing the same flame! \m/

Thirteen Bled Promises Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

We have been busy preparing the release with Lacerated Enemy Records as well as taking care of the projects that were returning to play live right now after the live music break due to the pandemic in Spain.

2.A few months back you had released a new ep, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Musically it is a natural progression in the sound of the band, as well as the conjunction of new influences and the desire to do something a little different. We have borrowed some brushstrokes from black metal as well as continuing to search through technical riffs always somewhat more dissonant.

3.With the exception of a single in 2019 this is also your first release since 2015, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?

Since all the members of TBP are immersed in other musical projects, the new material took longer to compose, as well as the entrance to the studio, was delayed for more than half a year due to the pandemic. Likewise, we have never felt a real pressure to release material as soon as possible since we have always been a self-released and self-financed band, so the times were what they had to be. But now with the entry into Lacerated Enemy Records, we have in mind to work hard to get the new material ready soon.

4.A lot of your lyrics cover aliens, conspiracy theories and gore themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

Since we started the band we knew that we wanted to dedicate the theme of the lyrics to these issues since we are very fans of scifi culture and horror in all its aspects, cinema, literature, comic ... Also, some of us have had close experiences by family members with inexplicable situations, as well as letters sent with people who have had experiences and encounters that are difficult to explain.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Thirteen Bled Promises'?

It really doesn't make any more sense than the literal meaning of the words that make up the name, we were young and we didn't think about things much.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new ep cover?

Again, the artwork has been created by Martin de Diego Sabada, who created the previous covers except for the cover of the 2019 single. We have always been fascinated by his work and we have believed that he was the best artist to capture the theme of our lyrics. This time for the cover of 'Foundation', we travel from the medieval era of 'The Black Legend' to the future period in which the fight of aliens against the intraterrestrials of the TBP universe continues, with the founding of a new era.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Really for us each show is the same, we try to have the same good time and to leave the thousands or dozens of people who watch the show with the same feeling of brutality, heaviness and darkness. We believe that the important thing apart from the best possible execution of the songs live is to show an energy that people internalize and always want more.

8.The new ep was released on 'Lacerated Enemy Records', how would you compare working with this label or other labels you have been a part of in the past?

There is no comparison as Lacerated Enemy Records is our first label since TBP was created, so we are delighted to be part of the family and very excited about what we can achieve together.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your newer music by fans of black and death metal?

We have noticed that the people who have always followed us have been more than satisfied with the new material, as well as detecting that we have generated curiosity in people who did not have us on the radar. This is difficult to measure "digitally" so we are looking forward to going back to giving live concerts and feeling the feedback better.

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are part of?

The truth is that the other projects are working quite well and allow us to grow as musicians as well as to be able to enjoy different musical styles. If you are curious, here are some of the names of these projects: Aversio Humanitatis, Oscuro Culto, Cathexia, Eternal Storm...

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Definitely 2022 will be a year of hard work in the rehearsal room composing the new material, hopefully in 2023 he can be ready to record it. The direction of TBP musically as always will be the natural progression of the group's sound, seeking the speed, darkness and heaviness that we have always wanted to bring to the listener.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

Well, each of us have musical styles in common but also styles that are very different from each other. But to name a few, from extreme metal (black, tech death, osdm, funeral doom, nu metal), to rap, synthwave, jazz or classical music.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

It has been a pleasure responding to this interview, and I apologize in advance for my lack of naturalness in answering in English, but it is all that this humble speaker of Spanish can do. Thank you and see you for the helliosphere!

Chaos Perversion Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

1  To begin with, Chaos Perversion was born in 2016 as a solo project, after several failed attempts with other bands/musicians he is involved with.

The intention from the beginning was to create crushing fucking black/death metal by combining the dense part of doom metal.

Shortly after, Daniel Hermosilla (Nox Fragor Art) joined the band and that's how it took shape.

2.So far you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that yo went for on the recording?

2 Of course, At the moment and Physically there is only one EP, The style was given by Sola and Naturally, I basically make Music for myself, And what I look for in It is that it be Darkly powerful as well as conceptual with the things I do and I think.

I could start by naming bands that influenced the composition, but in general I only look for the riffs and blast beast to flow, in fact if I usually find something similar in a band I change it, either in melody or rhythm.

3.Both of the band members are aslo in other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Chaos Perverrsion' that you are not able to do with your other other groups?

3 Personally I have 2 separate bands, which are svadhisthana (Death/Doom) and a new black metal band which I won't say much about, conceptually and musically they are different. The same thing happens with Daniel, he participates in Cenotafio (Black/Death) Invehertex/Ignifania (Black Metal)

4.A lot of your lyrics cover Vampirism, Dark Witchcraft and Chaos Magick themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

4 Of course, the Concept is Quite Explicit and is Based on Experiences of the Oneiric Plane (Post Visualization/Meditation Dreams together with Sigils) They are basically Recreations and Self Interpretation of those manifestations of the Subconscious that Mundanely/Daily wander through my Mind.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Chaos Perversion'?

5 The name is born from the original magic that I knew, magic that covers multiple disciplines of different esoteric practices which I continue to do, mainly self-control of thought and calm in the face of Chaos.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

6 Currently there are 2 Covers, one Daniel Design (Nox Fragor Art) which was used in the first release under my label (Ritualization Prods) and frames the black energy emanated by the human body, energy that surpassed the physical margins and record our power centers. The Second was executed by Daniel Corcuera (Nekronikon) For the Reissue of that EP, it demonstrates a vulnerability of the inert body while it sleeps/dies, it shows how horrible desires are while we are vulnerable.

7.Currnetly there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

7 Exactly, little by little musicians are being added for some future presentation.

With the new EP, which is soon to be released, we will already have a Track list to show in public, despite the fact that in composition everything will continue as it is.

8.Recently 'Sentient Ruin Laboratories' and 'Total Death' teamed up to re-issue  your 2019 ep under a new titled, can you tell us a little bit more about the decision behind the name change of the newer version?

8 Gerardo from the label and producer Total death He was the first interested in re-editing the EP, some time later Mattia from Setient Ruins Laboratories joined us and together we decided that the release be done on a similar date, both labels collaborated with a new artwork for both releases. The name change was simply to make the concept of the EP even clearer. Musically, only an intro and an outro were added.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

9 The truth is that at the moment only the labels have seen it, I have not promoted or agreed on exchanges with people from other countries. In fact, this is the first interview that I answer that is not from a Chilean zine, even so I trust that this black seed will continue to reap fruits like these and will continue to spread through every corner (I don't usually pay attention to things on social networks)

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

10 For my part, I have 2 EPs with my own bands in parallel and from different genres (Black metal and Death/Doom) that will soon be released when I make the respective releases under my label called Ritualization Prods.

For Daniel's part, he has recordings in progress for his black metal and black/death metal bands called Invehertex (Black Metal), Cenotafio (Black/Death with a couple of tracks for Future Split) and Ignifania (Black metal with a new album composed and ready to record)

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

11 In the short term (This year) I am scheduled to release the Second EP Que Grave last year and at the same time release a compilation with both EPs for the First LP Under my label, unless I have another offer from another label, which I will not past moment.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

12 There are quite a few bands that I have liked lately, such as Caverne , Anatomia , The hauthing Presence , Cultes des Ghoules (Gods) , Baxaxaxa , Malokarpatan Krypts, Outside of metal I listen to a lot of Dead Can Dance , Celtic Music and Tibetan Mantras. Above I told you what I think about "Musical Influences" and that I just let it flow naturally.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

13 In Advance Thank You for the Space and Interest in Chaos Perversion And Tell future Readers who adore and accept death as a transcendental step towards Eternity, Downplay the Fear of the Pandemic that oppresses Society today, to fight for empowerment and make own communion with their respective daemon, Resistan and Persistan in Extreme Metal, we are just preparing for the imminent enjoying the process, which is the only thing worthwhile.

Dødskvad/Krønike II/Caligari Records/2022 EP Review

Dødskvad  are  a b and  from  Norway  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  tripped  out  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of their  2022  ep  "Krønike  II"  which  will  be  released  on  January  20th  by  Caligari  Records.

A  very  dark  and  heavy  yet  90's  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  you  can  also h ear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  the  music  being  mostly  death  emtal growls  as  well  as  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  done  at  times.

Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  remains  true  to  an  old  school  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Clean  playing  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized briefly  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Norse  mythology  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dødskvad   and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  and  atmospheric  blackened  death  emtal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  " Etterlatt  Til  Ulver"  and  "Verdenstreets  Rot".  8  out  of  10.
