In Mourning/Monolith/Pulverised Records/2010 CD Review

In Mourning are a band from Sweden that mixes a very progressive brand of melodic death metal/gothic metal and a little bit of black metal together to create their own sound and this is a review of their 2010 album "Monolith" which was released by Pulverised Records.

Drums are a mixture between slow to mid  paced playing with little to no fast drumming or blast beats being employed, while the bass playing has a very heavy and powerful sound with some progressive riffs that are death metal influenced.

Rhythm guitars are mostly slow and mid  paced riffs that mix death metal with metalcore style riffing and there is also a good amount of melody that is gothic/doom metal influenced mixed in with some fast parts that have a black metal edge, while the lead guitars are very melodic and progressive sounding guitar solos and there is a small amount of acoustic guitars being used on occasion.

Vocals cover a variety of styles with some deep death metal growls mixed in with some high pitched black metal screams and clean vocals, while the  lyrics cover poetic and depressing themes, as for the production it sounds very professional giving each musical instrument a very heavy sound.

In my opinion In Mourning are a very talented band that should appeal to people that are into melodic death metal, gothic metal and the more mainstream sounding black metal. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "For You To Know" "The Poet And The Painter Of Souls" and "Pale Eye Revelation". RECOMMENDED BUY.
