Mourning Dawn are a band from France that plays a mixture of black and funeral doom metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "waste" which will be released at the end of January by Aesthetic Death.
A very dark yet powerful bass guitar sound starts off the album which also leads up to a heavier musical direction and after awhile atmospheric elements and grim black metal screams are added onto the recording and death metal growls are also utilized at times along with all of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Melodic chants along with spoken word parts are added into some parts of the music and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic fashion and clean playing is also added into some sections of the songs while the slower sections of the tracks are done in a more funeral doom metal style.
Mourning Dawn plays a musical style that takes black metal and mixes it with funeral doom to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover depression, loss and melancholy themes.
In my opinion Mourning Dawn are a very great sounding mixture of black and funeral doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The One I'll Never Be". 8 out of 10.
