Pessimist are a band from Maryland that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2012 album "Slaughtering The Faithful" which will be re-issued on Halloween in 2015 by Obscure Musick along with bonus demo and live tracks that where not presented on the original version.
Clean guitar playing starts off the album and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and brutal death metal direction that also uses a great amount of blast beats and guttural growls and you can also hear some morbid sounding melodies in the riffing at times.
When solos and leads are utilized they remain true to a very chaotic and old school style of death metal and the music also gets very technical at times and the vocals also get high pitched at times and you can also hear a good amount of black metal influences in the bands musical style while the music is more closer to death metal.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some of the riffs also bring in a touch of thrash at times and the live tracks come from a show that they had recorded for a radio station in the East Coast and also remain true to a very brutal style of blackened death metal.
Pessimist played a style of blackened death metal that was very brutal for its time on this recording and can still compete with the younger bands that create brutality these days, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death, murder and brutality themes.
In my opinion Pessimist are a very great sounding brutal blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Slaughtering The Faithful" "Infernal Abyss" and "Stripped Of Immortality". 8 out of 10.
