Skumstrike are a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of black, thrash metal and crust punk and this is a review of their 2022 album "Deadly Intrusions" which was released by Selfmadegod Records.
A very fast and aggressive sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and at times the music also captures the raw energy of crust punk.
Elements of thrash metal can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also adding in a good balance between first and second wave influences.as well as all of the musical instruments on the album also having a very powerful sound to them, all of the music sticks to a heavier direction and they also close the release with a cover of Poison Idea's "Nothing Is Final".
On this recording Skumstrike remain true to the mixture of black, thrash metal and crust punk that they had established on their previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, violence and murder themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Skumstrike and if you are a fan of black, thrash metal and crust punk, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Caustic Poison" Another Shot Of Fear" "Mental World Submission": and "Deadly Intrusions". 8 out of 10.
