   Kvadrat  are  a  solo  project  from  Greece  that  plays  a  very  dissonant  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "The  Horrible  Dissonance  Of  Oblivion"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Nuclear  Winter  Records,  Desolate  Depths  and  Total  Dissonance  Worship.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  while  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Melodies  and  dissonant  structures  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  lot  of  death  metal  growls.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  black  metal  screams  are  also  utilized  at  times.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  dissonant  style  as  well  as  all  of  the  drum beats  also  being  programmed,  spoken  word  samples  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.

  Kvadrat  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  dark,  brutal  and  dissonant  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror,  nightmares  and  oblivion  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  Kvadrat  are  a  very  great  sounding  dissonant  blackened  death  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Underground  Maze"  and  "Total  Decay".  8  out  of  10.

Through Mists/Summon The Severed/Syrup Moose Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Canada's  solo  project  Through  Mists  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  progressive  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  the  album  was  released  in  2023  by  Syrup  moose  Records  and  called  "Summon  The  Severed".

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  music  also  gets  very  technical at  times.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  some  clear  singing  also  being  utilized  at  times  the  music  also  has  its  progressive  moments.

  Synths  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  piano's  can  also  be  heard  briefly

  On  this  recording  Through  Mists  brings  out  a  very  technical,  progressive  and  blackened  style  of  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  a  protagonist  known  as  the  Traveller,  seeking  to  redeem  himself  and  to  free  himself  and  others  from  the  tyranny  and  whims  of  the  gods.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Through  Mists  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nest  of  Blood  &  Sin"  "In  Out  Image"  and "Summon The  Severed  Pt  III".  8  out  of  10.

  Through  Mists  are  a  solo  project  from  Montreal,  Quebec,  Canada  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on t his  recording  goes  for  a  very  progressive  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Homicidal  Hamsters'  which  was  released  by  Syrup  Moose  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  At  times  the  music  also gets  very  progressive  sounding  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  technical  style  while  most of  the  songs  are  also  instrumentals.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  very  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  pianos  onto  the  album  and  when  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Through  Mists  brings  out  a  very  progressive  style  of  blackened  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  on  science  experiments  by  Australian  scientists  on  hamsters  which  also  turned  them  into  cannibals.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Through  Mists  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  progressive  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Homicidal  Hamsters"  "Tonight  We  Dine  On  Each  Other"  and  "Hunting  The  Ones  Up  High".  8  out  of  10.

   Krypt  are  a  band  from  Augusta,  Georgia  that  plays  a  blackened  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  ep  "Great  Spawn  Of   The  Worms  Of  The  Earth"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Terminus  Hate  City.

  Movie  samples  start  off  the  ep  before  adding  into  some  blast  beats  and  black  metal  style  fast  tremolo  picking.   All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements  and  melodies  are  also  utilized  at  times.

  Vocals  are  done  in  a  very  aggressive  death/thrash  metal  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  music  also  add  in  both  modern  and  old  school  influences  along with  one  track  also  being  an  instrumental  and  the  whole  ep  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  more  of  a  90's  extreme  metal  style.

  Krypt  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  corrupt  system. 

  In  my  opinion  Krypt  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Burden  Of  The  Beast"  and  "Unrelenting".  8  out  of  10.

   Goresoerd  are  a  band  from  Estonia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  album  "Invisiitir".

  Marching  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  brutal  and  dissonant  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Goresoerd  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death  and  groove  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Estonian  and  cover  mysticism,  filth  of  the  earth,  war,  suffering  and  degradation  themes.

Equinox/Journey To Oblivion/Vic Records/2024 Album Re-issue Review

 

  This  is  another  review  of  a  recording  from  Florida's  Equinox  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  the  album  was  originally  released  in  20023  and  called  "Journey  To  Oblivion"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  July  2024  by  Vic  Records  and  also  consists  of  their  promo  1994  demo  and  1993  basement  sessions  as  bonus  tracks.

  A  very  apocalyptic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  which  also  introduces  keyboards  onto  the  album  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  while  the  guitar  riffing  is  more  rooted  in  death  metal  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing.  Growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  90's  style  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length,  the  demo  tracks  also  show  more  of  a  darker  musical  direction  from  the  band.

  On  this  recording  Equinox  went  for  more  of  a  traditional  blackened  death  metal  style  which  was  different  from t he  first  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Equinox  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Invasions  Of  The  Angry  Dead"  "Crystallized"  "Sword  of  Sirsir"  and  "Beyond".  8  out  of  10.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while t he  vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  and  keyboards  are  also  utilized  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  death  metal  growls.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark,  chaotic  yet  melodic  style,  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  demo  shows  also  display  more  of  an  aggressive  style  then  what  is  heard  on  the  full length.

  Equinox  played  a  musical  style  that  went  back  to  the  mid  80's  and  early  90's  era  of  European  black  metal  and  American  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Sumerian  Mythology,  Evil  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Equinox  where  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Rites  Of  Red  Giving"  "The  Mourning  River"  "Psychic  Rebirth"  and  "Divine  Ascension".  8/5  out  of  10.

  Sweden's  Vanhelgd  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  atmospheric  and  blackened  mixture  of  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Atropis  Doctrine"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  slower  sections  of  the songs  also bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal.  Vocals are  mostly  angry  sounding death  metal  growls  mixed  in  with  a  few  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark y et  melodic  style  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  A  lot  of  the songs  are  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  also  being  utilized  when  the  album  finally  speeds  up.

   Synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  death  and  horror  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Vanhelgd  and  if  you a re  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black,  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Saliga  aro  de  dodfodda"  "Atropos  hymnarium"  and  "Gravjordsfrid". 8  out  of  10.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  elements  of  black  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  adding  in  more  of  an  old  school  style,  the  sounds  of  battles  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  keyboards  are  also  added  on  of  the  songs.

Acid Mass Interview

 

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the solo project since the recording of the new album?

When I finished recording AGONIZER, I immediately started working on what is now WORSHIP. This time around, I’ve kind of stepped back from working on new Acid Mass stuff for the time being. Of course, I say this as I just finished demoing a new Acid Mass song 3 days ago. I’m just not hitting it as hard right now I guess but I’m also not stifling inspiration when it strikes. The main focus for Acid Mass right now is promoting the new record and finding members to play in a live band so we can play some fucking shows already!

2.You have a new album coming out in August, musically how does it differ from your previous releases?

Musically, I would say it’s much more thought out. I feel like these songs have more intention and structure, as far as song writing goes. As far as the overall sound of the record, it sounds light years better than AGONIZER simply because I learned a lot in the process of recording that record.

3.In the last year you have released a couple of full lengths, 2 eps and a few singles, do you spend a great amount of time writing and creating music?

Yeah, music is basically my whole life at this point. I spent all my teens and most of my 20’s in bands but then took a big chunk of time (7 or 8 years?) away from music to get some personal shit straight. Now that I’ve rediscovered my love of playing at 35 years old, it’s all I want to do.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

The obvious ones would be war, religion, demons, shit like that. On WORSHIP, some of the topics include the negative effect of humans on the planet, suicide, how the actions and ideologies of a few war mongers dictate the future for us all, etc.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Acid mass'?

To be very honest, it’s the title of one of my favorite Wraith songs. When I first started doing Acid Mass, the project didn’t have a name. I was driving one day and listening to music and that song came on and I thought “that would be a killer band name” so I text Matt (vocals/guitar in Wraith) and asked if he’d care if I used it and he was kind enough to say “go for it”. Truth be told, I didn’t expect anything to really come of Acid Mass, so when AGONIZER started doing well, I had a moment where I almost changed the name because a couple of the Wraith guys were asked multiple times if Acid Mass was a Wraith side project. Not that I have an issue being mentioned in the same breath as those guys; they’re one of my favorite bands and some very close buds. I was just worried that it would be hard to prove that I wasn’t trying to like ride their coattails or something. But, it seems that as time has gone on, that has kind of worked itself out which I’m grateful for because I didn’t want to lose such a good band name.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Yeah! Sandy Rezalmi is the artist and I’ve used him for just about everything I’ve released up to this point. I just love his style and his art fits the musical style so well. As far as the art for WORSHIP, I had already written the song of the same name and decided I wanted that to be the title of the next record before I had any art lined up. I knew I wanted to use Sandy again, so I went to his instagram to message him about a commission but decided to just scroll through his profile and see if there was anything I could use as a jumping off point. I ended up seeing the artwork that is being used for the record and thought it was just perfect. I found out from Sandy that it was available, so I jumped on it!

7.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to remain solo?

I’m not opposed to working with other musicians here and there for Acid Mass. For example, there are some (heavy hitting) guests on WORSHIP that I collaborated with and I’ve collaborated with a couple other people on some covers this year. But as far as writing as a whole, I think I’d like to keep it in house, so to speak. Not because I’m some dictator or because I don’t work well with others. Mainly, because I’m an idiot and I sometimes have poor communication skills and sometimes I don’t know how to convey the idea I have so it’s much easier to just do it myself. I actually like working with other musicians. I’m in a couple of actual bands aside from Acid Mass and I love the camaraderie that comes with that. It’s just with Acid Mass, I have such a specific idea for how I want things to sound, I guess.

8.Recently you have done a 'Death' cover', what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

Yeah! That was a fun one to do. Especially having Ash Thomas (Faithxtractor) do the guest vocals because he’s a local guy that I’ve always admired as a musician. That song was part of a series of monthly covers I did this year. As with all the other covers I did, I basically just wanted to pay tribute to bands that have shaped the way I think about and write music. And having a death metal legend like Ash do the vocals was a no-brainer. Speaking of those monthly cover releases, there will be more later in the year.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and thrash metal?

It has honestly been insane. It has legitimately brought a tear to my eye more than once. Having people from the other side of the world buy your record is an experience I certainly never thought I would have. I’ve shipped copies of AGONIZER all over the world and every time, I’m just kind of blown away. The idea of my little at-home recording project making its way from Cincinnati Ohio to someone in Germany or Chile, for example, is absolutely nuts to me. It’s a real humbling experience and I’m grateful as hell for it.

10.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

Well, like I mentioned earlier, I’d really love for Acid Mass to finally find its way to a live audience. That’s a big goal for this year. Even if it’s just one show. As far as writing goes, I think I’ll only be able to take a break from working on new stuff for so long before I have to scratch that itch. I want to push Acid Mass further and push myself further as a musician. I just hope whatever comes from that doesn’t suck!

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I grew up on metal and punk through my Dad and my aunt so those genres and tons of their sub genres have made their mark on my brain and my style. Slayer, Sodom, Bathory, early Metallica, Death, Exorcist, Discharge, Broken Bones, English Dogs, Anti Cimex, Venom, to name a few specific influences. As far as what I’m listening to lately: Nocturnal, Graveripper, Loose Tongue, Impalers,  Hellripper, Warthog, and some nerdy ass podcasts.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  Elements  of  deathcore  can  also  be  heard  in  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  vocals  also  have  their  guttural  moments.

  Some  of  the  shouts  also  add  in  a  touch  of  metalcore  while  orchestration  is  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  The  music  also  has  its  technical  moments  in  both  the  riffs and  solos  along  with  some  pig  squeals  also  being  utilized  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing,  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  

  Art  Of  Attrition  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  technical  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  mixes  it  with  deathcore  and  symphonic  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  Clan  Dos  Mortos  Cicatriz  are  a  band  from  Brazil  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  compilation  album  "Debil"  which  consists  of  the  ep's  released  between  2017  and  2022.  

  A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  while  the  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  shouting  hardcore  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  short  in  length  and  the mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  elements  of  crust  punk  and  d  beat.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  style  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.   Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  bringing  in  more  of  an  old  school  metal/punk  style,  some  of  the  tracks  also  shows  influences  of  post  punk,  oi,  goth  and  deathrock.

  Thanatotherion  are  a  solo  project  from  San  Jose,  California  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Alienation  Manifesto"  which  was  released  by  I,  Voidhanger  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  brutal  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  death  metal  growls  and  the  keyboards  add  in  more  of  an  atmospheric  touch.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilzied  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  spoken  word  samples  and  noises  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  as  well as  tremolo  picking  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing.

  Thanatotherion  plays  a  style  of  blackened  thrash  metal  that  focuses  more  on  being  modern  instead  of  retro  as  well  as  adding  in  some  keyboards  and  technical  death  metal  elements  to  create  something  very  different.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  complete  rejection  and  disgust  for  the  human   species.

  Acid  Mass  are  a  solo  project  from  Cincinnati,  Ohio  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Worship"  which  will  be  released  in  August  as  a  joint  effort  between  Morbid  And  Miserable,  Motorpunk  and  Vicious  Witch  Records.

  A  horror  movie  orientated  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  Elements  of  thrash  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  and  at  times  the  music  captures  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock.  

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  while  also  being  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  more  of  an  old  school  extreme  metal  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

   The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  speed  metal  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  session  work  from  members  of  Wraith,  Savage  Master,  Hellripper  and  Faithxtractor  as  well  as  one  track  also  being  an  instrumental..  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  violence  themes.

     Canada's  Eternal  Drak  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  blackened  thrash  metal  style  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  album  "Imprisoned  Souls"  which  will  be  released  in  July.

  A  very  heavy  thrash  metal  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  mixture  of  both  modern  and  old  school  influences.

  Some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  elements  of  groove  metal  while  synths  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album.  Blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks when  the  music  speeds  up  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  semi  clear  vocals.

  Nifelheim  are a   band  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  that  also  has  a  history  going  back  more  then  30  years  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  compilation  album  "Total  Death"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Darkness  Shall  Rise  and  consists  of  their  1993  demo,  4  original  unreleased  tracks  and  2  cover  songs.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  bells,  screams  and  demonic  voices  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.

  Vocals a re  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  thrash  metal  elements  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  more  rooted  in  80's  underground  metal  when  they  are  utilized  and  they  also  add  in  some  Motorhead  and  Bathory  covers.

  On  this  compilation  Nifelheim  bring  out  a  very  aggressive  style  of  blackened  thrash  metal  that  was  very  aggressive  for  the  time  it  was  released.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Blasphemy  and  Evil  themes.
