Boleskine House are a duo from Italy that plays an atmospheric mixture of black, doom and gothic metal with elements of shoegqaze and this is a review of their 2024 album "Miserabilist Blues" which was released as a joint effort between masked Dead Records and Sulphur Music.
Clean playing starts off the album before going into a heavier doom metal direction while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats and the vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Elements of 90's era gothic metal can also be heard quite a bit throughout the album along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
Influences of shoegaze are also added in the cleaner sections of the songs as well as one song also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts, keyboards can also be heard briefly and the album closes with a My Bloody Valentine cover. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover ruined lives and nostalgia themes.
In my opinion Boleskine House are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of black, doom and gothic metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENED TRACKS INCLUDE "Black House Painters" and "A Place To Mourn Forever". 8 out of 10.
