Vrykolakas are a band from Singapore that plays a very brutal form of blackened death metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Nocturnal Dominion Of Death" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath, Paragon. Futhark Records and Iron, Blood & Death Corporation.
A very fast and brutal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly death metal growls and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while elements of black metal can also be heard at times. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also adding in more of an old school style, the sounds of battles can also be heard briefly and keyboards are also added on of the songs.
Vrykolakas plays a style of blackened death metal that is very aggressive and brutal sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, death, blasphemy, mythology and anti Islamic themes.
In my opinion Vrykolakas are a very great sounding brutal blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Darkness Consumes The Soul" "The Forbidden Hope For Death" and "From The Hellfire Comes The Spawn". 8 out of 10.
