Idle Ruin are a band from Australia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of black, death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "The Fell Tyrant" which was released by Darkness Shall Rise.
A very heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also add in a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
Elements of thrash metal are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording while the vocals are mostly black metal screams. Tremolo picking is also added into some of the faster riffing along with some back up shouts also being utilized at times as well as some death metal growls also being added on most of the songs, clean playing is also added briefly towards the end
On this recording Idle Ruin remains true to the mixture of black, death and thrash metal that they have established on their previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover local folklore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Idle Ruin and if you are a fan of black, death and thrash metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shackled For Adornment" "Orbitoclast" "Cult Of Dominion" and "Exul 6:31". 8 out of 10.
