This is a review of a split ep with Ukraine's Merzotna Potvora and Obrij which was released by Neformat Family and we will start off the review with Merzotna Potvora who return with their mixture of black, thrash, speed metal and punk.
Their side of the split starts out with some air raid sirens before going into a heavier direction while blast beats are added into the faster sections of the songs. The riffs also add in a lot of melody along with the music also adding in a lot of thrash and speed metal elements as well as the vocals being mostly black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffs also capturing the raw energy of punk rock. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also bring in more of an 80's style as well a s all of the music sticking to either a fast or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Ukrainian and cover death - both total and personal.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Merzotna Potvora and if you are a fan of black, thrash, speed metal and punk, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Tanok Smerti".
Next up is Obrij a band that plays a mixture of death metal, crust punk and d beat.
Their side of the split starts out with a very old school death metal sound while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a great amount of d beats can also be heard while the vocals are done in more of a screaming style and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing
Element s of crust punk are also utilized quite a bit throughout their side of the recording along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some growls also being used briefly, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Ukrainian and cover the war in their home country
In my opinion Obrij are a very great sounding mixture of death metal, crust punk and d beat and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Час випробовує нас".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of extreme metal and underground metal/punk. 8 out of 10.
