1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?
Reginn is a death/black metal project i started in 2022. I take the genres of music I like and try to blend them together and add my own twist.
2.A few months back you had released a new full length, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
The new album is a little more black metal were my first album was more death metal. The songs on the new album are a little longer and I tried to use more keyboards. There's also more lead work on this album (if you'd call it that). I've always been more of a rhythm player so that was a little different.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?
self loathing/deprecation, being forgotten, disgust for humanity, hypocrisies of Christianity, crossing through different dimensions, seeing spirits, hallucinations.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Reginn'?
Reginn is a dwarf in norse mythology who became obsessed with the cursed gold his brother stole. he was beheaded by sigurd, after he ate fafnir's heart and learned reginn was going to kill him.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
I came up with the idea of 2 hooded figures performing a ritual outside of a mausoleum. Basically binding the spirit to its grave.
6.With this project you record everything by yourself but have experience working with musicians in a previous project, do you prefer to work solo?
working solo is a little easier but it's more work. I enjoy working on projects with other people and bouncing creative ideas off of each other. it's not so much preferring to work alone, it just becomes difficult finding people to work with at times. either the other person is working on their own projects or I just started working on an album. would definitely like to work with more people in the near future tho.
7.In 2024 you where a part of a split with 'Hasthur', what are your thoughts on the other project that had participated on the recording?
Hasthur is awesome! he's very limited on what he can do so it makes his music unique and really stand out. most of it is instrumental. kinda reminds me of Nortt.
8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
Not really looking for a label but im not against signing or working with one. im more interested in finding a distributor to help get physical/digital releases out there more.
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?
It's been really good. people seem to take it for what it is rather than nitpick it to death. I think bouncing from death metal to black metal through the album kinda throws people off but they seem to enjoy it.
10.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?
right now I am slowly working on new material in my down time and writing. im also gonna be working on getting new gear and possibly work on filming a "making of" video for the next album.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
the bands that have influenced me are burzum, naglfar, funeral mourning, nargaroth, dissection, mourning beloveth, bell witch. lately I've been listening to immortal, dissection, ov hell, dead Kennedys, adolescents, TSOL, misfits, and vandals. lots of 80s punk and black metal haha.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Just wanted to say thanks for having me be part of this, thanks for the album review and thanks to all the people who gave the album a listen. New music in the near future!!!
