Evoke are a band from Norway that plays a blackened mixture of thrash and speed metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Seeds Of Death" which will be released in September by Pulverised Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats, Elements of thrash metal are also added into the guitar riffing along with the vocals being done in a mostly first wave black metal style and the music is also very heavily rooted in the 80's era.
Melodies are also added into some of the riffs while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic yet old school style. Influences of speed metal are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The whole album also makes a retro style sound more modern and the music also captures the raw aggression of the South American bands from more than 30 years ago as well as the closing track also adding in a brief use of stringed instruments. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Darkness, Death and War themes.
In my opinion Evoke are a very great sounding mixture of black, thrash and speed metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deadly Revenge" "Leviathan's Victory" and "Satanic Rebirth". 8 out of 10.
